running nexuiz off of a DVD

Postby Yoda almighty » Tue Sep 29, 2009 8:35 pm

my computer is running out of memory, ad I would like to find a way to free up some space. would it be possible to install nexuiz on a DVD and run it from there? also, maybe an external hard drive?

Sure!

You can run Nexuiz and all Quake 1-2-3 engined games from a DVD/CD drive. But be prepared, the first loading times can take long!

cool

and loading times already take long, so that's ok.

eventually, I want to get an external hard drive, but that's for a later time, when I have money.

A pen drive would be a better idea, than an optical disk. Downloading maps, custom configs, etc.

and updates would be a pain...youd have to burn a whole new disc each time..of course, in return you would have an impressive collection of every version of nexuiz, perfectly preserved for all of eternity.

that may or may not be a good thing...

i do have a 3GB pen drive, but I am not sure I want to use it, wanting to use it instead for useful things like .word documents for school and stuff like that.

but I might still try it.

Consider using a DVD-RAM, it functions similarly to a floppy disk, albeit one that has 4.7 GB of capacity.

hmm. i looked it up and it looks intriguing. can you run it with just a regular computer DVD drive? also, where can you buy them, and how much do they usually go for? (I looked it up, and the only places I can find are like amazon, where the price isn't really an accurate depiction of usual cost.)

How much is a USB pendrive? About as much as a pack of blanks? I already had several distros on mine.
And it's smaller and more robust than *D's.
