Awesome Levels!

Postby Glass Joe » Fri Jun 30, 2006 6:55 pm

I was playing a CTF only server yesterday which had three awesome new levels. They were all great for CTF, but there were two which I thought would be good for deathmatch as well. One was basically a big checker-board box. The other was a really cool (and really tricky) space-platform map.

I also like the level that is in the campain portion of v2.0. It has a jump-pad in the center which takes you to a "doughnut" platform far above.

Also, whatever happened to these levels...

1.) The "green space fortress" map that was lost from version 1.2. It had a few very narrow hallways, rocket-launcher, and no nex.

2.) The "three platform space" map that was lost from version 1.5. It was symetrical and had one platform above the others with a nex there.

These are all cool maps (sorry for not knowing their real names). Who made these new levels? Is there a repsitory where these alternative maps are stored (including the old, forgotten ones)?

I guess you are referring to dismal. It's still in 2.0, but it is configured for CTF only atm, because that map really sucks performance wise and has some weird bump mapping errors.

divVerent has packed all maps that were deleted: http://141.2.16.3:7780/attic/ (he also made a forum post somewhere...)

That's the one I made, eggandbacon. Basically a DM map and CTF was just intended as a joke - but worked out better than I expected.

Probably revdm1 or revdm3.

That's bluesky, which was added to 2.0 just before release.

That one was too slow for most people and a bit buggy. Plus the source files got lost so further editing was not possible any more.

2.) The "three platform space" map that was lost from version 1.5. It was symetrical and had one platform above the others with a nex there.

That one just didn't work with deluxemapping (probably a map compiler or an engine bug) and looks ugly (and it's not high enough), but 2.0 maps should all be deluxemapped. It was not completely removed from 2.0 because there are few enough CTF maps already, it was just removed from the other game modes.

Different people. revdm* are made by Revenant, eggandbacon was made by me mainly intended as a joke (and probably the simplest playable Nexuiz map ever :P), tz* are made by tZork.

Is there a repsitory where these alternative maps are stored (including the old, forgotten ones)?

Old ones: http://141.2.16.3:7780/attic/ (note: DSI is broken at the moment, and many of the miss mapcfgs)

Non-official maps: http://user.uni-frankfurt.de/~jsiegl/ (some of the pk3s are not maps though, and keep away of space-fun and strale* maps - these are by Strahlemann, but somehow conflict with some maps in Nexuiz 2.0, that is, they make the skybox stop working). space-fun is cool, it would be nice if anyone (maybe Strahlemann Himself) could fix it.

My server (on which you probably there) uses the maps in http://141.2.16.3:7780/extramaps/

These maps were mostly made at 1.2.1 or 1.5 times, but never really got popular because there weren't automatic map download before. Now there is map download, so I set up a server which ONLY runs maps which aren't included with 2.0.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

The green space fortress map had some flaws.

There were some mapping errors, and you could fall down and run around on the bottom of the map.

If you knew what you were doing, you could double laser jump from the bottom, and run around on top of the sky.

It was fun.
