old nexuiz versions

Postby The mysterious Mr. 4m » Sat Jul 15, 2006 11:48 pm

I noticed there are no versions below 1.5 on sourceforge, I still have them tho, just in case. Would it be worth the effort to provide old versions or is that completely unnecessary? Im talkin about old maps and stuff that may not work properly in 2.0.

Yes, it is unecessary. There are older versions than 1.5 on sf.net: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=153676 ;)

And for old and unsupported stuff in Nexuiz 2.0: there will be a demo converter script made by divVerent in the next patch or downloadable here: http://svn.icculus.org/nexuiz/trunk/mis ... 6&view=log

divVerent also made all the dropped maps available for download (in attic): http://141.2.16.3:7780/nex/maps/
Its better to use those then the maps from the old Nexuiz versions as those also support deluxemapping (those that could be made to support it at least :))

darkplaces builtin fog
fog r g b density

in 2.0 it uses glsl afaik, in older vesrions it used some other method. so systems that dont have glsl or are to slow to run with it enabled will see no fog in 2.0

Hmm having glsl enabled should not make a difference if all the feature that use glsl are disabled. As far as i know all the gloss, bump, deluxe, glow stuff uses shaders and make older systems slow. Well ofcource if your system is too old for glsl thats another thing. Must admit i never tried fog in Nexuiz 2.0. Hope i can try it later..

Well i did try the fog in 2.0, but only on a machine with glsl enabled and working. The part with it not working on older cards is somehing i remeber from the chatt (i think..) it may not be glsl, but some other api or so. the point it it uses a newer way to do it in 2.0. one that does not work for everyone.

This would not be a big deal unless fog is sutch a special fx. its perfectly normal that all machines cant use all fx in a game. however when/if you design a map to use for you are almost always using it to limit the line of sight. some players not seeing fog and some that does on the same map will ofc tip the balance in unintended ways.

LordHavoc explained yesterday on irc that fog does work in r_glsl 0 .. however only if some other setting was also changed.. i think it was gl_combine 0. I do not have my irc logs at hand. Maybe divVerent can tell if this is right or you just try it :)
