First: I am not the most active member in the community but I play the game pretty often (mostly Offline against bots I admit). So maybe I should not say too much now but I want to get rid of some thoughts.

I also must say I think it's a good thing Nexuiz will get a biger platform and I am sure it's an encrichment for those involved. Big Congratulations for those.
I think I can also agree with most of what tChr said. And I can understand what Kedhrin said.

Still:
I guess the biggest issue is what simply is shown when the wwebsite nexuiz.com is showed up:
You see the annoucement of the console version - bumping it. The "GPL Nexuiz" link is somewhere below that, small, seemingly "unimportant". And I guess this is a good anology on how people feel just right now: Unimportant, left aside.
I really do not know what the developers went though in the last years but I see we have a dedicated community who loves the game.

@Kedhrin + tChr:
I can fuilly understand your sides. And I hope this all will be sorted out and both projects will be able to profit somehow. But coming back to what I've written above I can also understand the declining reaction of others.
Plus I think the naming is just not... perfect. Nexuiz, GPL Nexuiz - I guess many *new* gamers will jus tnot see different projects here. Not with the current site, not with *this* naming-convention. But they will see the console version.
Again, another point why the current players might feel left out of the whole process.

Dunno if I am right, dunno if I am wrong...
Thing is: When I visited the page last night my first thought was: "Oh, GPL Nexuiz is dead, it will be succeeded/replaced by the console version."
Simply put: THIS IS A GPL VIOLATION. SOMEONE WILL SUE YOU.
It is not.

They licensed the engine from both ID software and Lord Havoc and crew so they could use it w/o the GPL.
They licensed the maps and textures they wanted from the authors (to what I've heard) so they could use it w/o the GPL.

They didn't license nor the quake C game code I assume and are making their own game code (I assume).

Hopefully Div0 and TZork will be payed some money for continuing development on Nexuiz:GPL (or whatever it is to be called).

Another good thing might be that LH and Vermillion will get to help direct the console port to how they want it to be, while the Nexuiz:Whatever gets to be how the main devs of it want it to be (Div0 etc).

MirceaKitsune made an interesting post. Doing this would be a good start in lessening the negative impact among current Nexuiz players. I also think that the console Nexuiz should either take place in a different time period or in a different part of this game's universe to explain the different art styles found in each version. If the current Nexuiz were displayed in a better way on the console Nexuiz page, it would give gamers an idea of what to expect in a console version and maybe draw them into buying it. Especially if the console version is supposed to explain how everything began, I really think that would draw some of the PC crowd into at least giving it a chance.

Sounds like an interesting project but Its a shame you guys are using the PC Nexuiz name
when you mention its a different game , different game in my view warrants a different name.

Its a shame that you guys don't support Keyboard and Mouse in a FPS on a console.
Its amazing how many players would play FPS on a console (and even get a console)
if it supported native USB keyboard and mice on Xbox360/PS3/whatever.

Personality using the joypad for FPS (and RTS) reduces the decent game play
and I cant see a Fast Action game like Nexuiz being propely reproduced without
keyboard and mouse support , thus ruining the name of PC Nexuiz .

Ive got Two Xbox360's , one PS2 , on PS1 and two gaming PC's.

I wish console games had keyboard and mouse support and cross platform play (Console + PC)

I mainly use consoles for games that arent on PC , I don't buy any game on console that's an
FPS or RTS , so I stick to fighting/racing/sports games.

If its a different game why you use Nexuiz as name?? Stealing the name is so lame! I guess its easier to promote , because Nexuiz is quite popular.

http://www.illfonic.com/

only a logo, what the hell?

Just use another name and i think almost everyone is fine with it.
Nexuiz is for me oldschool gaming with friends and not a console thing that does not look "Nexuizish" (what you can tell from the screens).

Money rules the world.Thats just the way things are , thats just the way it is now.

1. Good luck to LH and Verm with their enterprise. Nexuiz is a very nice work, I imagine you are proud of it, and I completely understand how you want to work on it full time.
2. The name issue is daunting and offending. Worse, it hints us that you do NOT value the community's interests and are willing to go blatantly against them. How hard is it to invent a suffix to use in the commercial product, as in Nexuiz:XYZ.
3. Despite being a long-time player (a couple of years), I'm little known in the community, so I don't want to push my opinion hard. But, given unfriendly attitude from the new maintainers, I think we, as a community, should take a stand and demand/negotiate separation of the free/libre software project into its own entity with community-elected governance and full control over the source code and content (i.e. control over the source code repositories, development and release process and the website). This development shouldn't harm the new maintainer and would give the community confidence in the project's future. As in many similar situations, the commercial company can have a representation in the governance.

We certainly have both the right and the power to demand such a change.

I don't like the thought of people coming from console Nexuiz to the console Nexuiz website, seeing the link to Real Nexuiz, trying it out and then saying "Wutt - this is not like Nexuiz at all.".

Why not using a derivative name like Nexuiz <whatever> and having a portal kind of site on nexuiz.com?

Much like Unreal.com links to Unreal, UT99, UT2k3, Unreal 2, UT2k4, UC1, and UC2: The Liandri Conflict.

Either you modify the name of your project. Or we do, and you contribute some of your work as compensation for the obvious disadvantages of a name change. It should be set in the same timeline, just different period.

Naming should be similar to
Herritic & Hexen

Therefore we get something like:
Nexuiz & Nexus
Nexuiz & Neurosis

some logos may include:
In the theme of big cooperations
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k208/ ... doalds.png
And more seriously
Chinese symbol for honor
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k208/ ... _honor.png
Chinese symbol for eternity
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k208/ ... ernity.png
or other symbols like ninja or war

I quite like the name Neurosis for Nexuiz. You never know...
All in all I hope you haven't deterred developers from the game so many people have put so much work into!!
