I'm feeling similarly like the others here on the forums. I am not a person having any strong opinions about this, though. Sure, I also contributed code and sideprojects to the game, and as it looks like, game content that was GPL'd is being released, not being GPLed anymore (if I understood this correctly).

Also some other "practices" (or simply things that happened) have not been correct, and I do disrespect some people now (you know who I mean) that I used to have respect for.

However,
I think it's "funny" that a company seriously thinks they can earn money
- with a FPS shooter on a console (paradox)
- of which a free (as in, for the people who don't know what "free" means, for them it's "no charge") alternative on a PC(!) exists
- with a "brand name" of a game that is, when looking at it from some other perspective (or even real numbers like player count, etc.) is absolutely a niche product

So in the end, the target market, imo, are people who are either stupid or are clueless about the alternative (I admin though that I am biased, since I'm neither a fan of consoles in general, nor could find a reason to play shooter games on consoles). I think that this console game will simply fail, mostly because I think that it won't be able to compete with other famous brands/games like Halo, etc.

Of course, it will be interesting to see whether my prediction will come true or not.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Communication is essential, especially in the current situation.

Edit: nicely put, GrEen'mArine. :o)
<Community>: Why was the name "Nexuiz" licensed to IllFonic in a way that allows IllFonic to use the name without any suffix or subtitle for a commercial console game?

I don't think it will fail, I mean, peeps who play on console are used to paying for everything.

Me, I play on PC and just use opensource games.
Diffrent markets.

Vermillion: I hope that you get royalties and are able to distribute them to the big contributors so they can work more on nexuiz (to my knowlege, real life work has been impinging on nexuiz development fun for some time now.)

I hope console nexuiz is a huge success so that those royalties will be large and better than most code development or admin jobs.

As for kendron, it seems he doesn't understand that this forum is mostly populated by people who do things and create content and is talking to us like we're consumer/gamers rather than producers. That rubs the wrong way, along with other things he's said. He doesn't know his audiance here. (Notice how in the begining everyone was willing to give a pass, then kendron ran his mouth and didn't know when to stop running it and pissed everyone off... nothing changed between those two times other than him talking).

Also, right now Nexuiz doesn't have a face, we give out the URL nexuiz.com for people interested as alientrap.org/nexuiz is too long.
You also need to make sure that the royalties get payed, this is your job, usually media companies DONT pay. You made the deal, you gotta keep on it and make it work out for the contributors who you have unilaterally taken up to represent.

Just got an idea regarding the GPL Nexuiz website. I've checked, and the nexuiz.net domain isn't registered. Now, what Alien Trap can do, is buy that domain name, and host a real website for the GPL Nexuiz on it. We can make a cool website design and maybe a showoff of all the game's features, maps, weapons, etc. I'm willing to work on this.

PS: I hope at least this idea is taken into consideration.

later edit: yes, I think nexiuz.org is a better idea (instead of nexuiz.net), but the idea with the new site, stands.

Oh, I like that idea. With this, at least people won't have to type alientrap.org/nexuiz, making it shorter.

Use http://nexiuz.org, it links directly to the mainpage, and can even be spelt phonetically.

If the majority of dev's feel slighted, or even a handful of them do. They should fork the S.O.B.

I would welcome the Son of Nexuiz.

I really don't care about the deal, granted Im more a occasional player then frequint forum user, because I almost never go on the forums, but the creators can do what they want,
the GPL code still exists, and its not going away, especially with Xonotic or whatever its called.
granted I didn't do any work on the game, but porting the game could be a good thing (I'm talking the source code, not the console port), since the community could take the reigns.
if a lot of people stick with the gpl nexuiz, its not exactly like they would force a namechange, since they can build off the community with the console game, by somewhat allowing their input (and using them to build hype)
