another thing:

Spectating a player works, but looks rather choppy. i guess this relates to server-to-client-updates or so.

anyway: how to get smooth spectating-mode?

In free fly mode, spectating is smooth. But there is a text which takes the whole screen... to disable it type that in the console :
Code: Select all
set scr_centertime 0

I think that you cant have a smooth player spectating demo on a public server through internet. When playing a local game with friends, player spectating is smooth.

The problem with player spectating is that the engine still tries to interpolate with your own movements and as you do not move but the other player does it makes things worse and choppy. There have been changes for this in 1.6 and it should be better then.

okay, thanx for the explanation..

however, maybe you can take a look at the q3 sourcecorde (it is available if i remember right), which does not have this problem.

i mean spectating is a quite intersting way to learn certain effects..

Yes spectating is interesting. However i'm not sure Q3 source code will help much as its very different from Nexuiz (code and engine). Guess for now you'll have to watch the demos from the ladder :)
