Postby *HxC*Cuizinier » Thu Aug 24, 2006 2:44 pm

New ! Google Video : http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid= ... 1823&hl=fr
But bad quality, watch it in normal mode (the arrow in bottom)

Hi all

I did not have Internet during 1 month, that thus allowed me to make you this first film. I had full with demo of version 2.0 and I had the idea of this film for a long time.
They are my prettier frags =)

What you can see inside (in order):
- An intro =)
- Ladder with Spirit
- with Esteel
- with dIM
- Some Running on BatServer
- Ladder with kill-0
- with Morfar
- Credit and thanks

size : 115.96 MB, format : WMV (sorry), duration : 9'53, resolution : 640/480
Have Fun !

For people that interests, how I made this movie :
- Play Nexuiz recording demo with command "rec"
- Watch complete demos recording video and sound with Fraps (I used the half-size and 25fps else the file are too big).
- I looked at the videos thus produced in detail to select the best moments and I record them with VirtualDubMOD in xvid codec
- I assembled, make the transitions, put music, make the idles and other things with windows movie maker
- And Problem : can't record the movie in avi format, movie maker crashed , It is for that that I have save it in wmv.

The engine has builtin video capture, that'll give you much better quality (the recording will be ok even if your framerate drops below 25fps, so you can record at ultra high setting :))

About the video capturing: http://www.forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?p=357#357
And also set cl_capturevideo_rawyv12 1 as KadaverJack adviced..

Ok i watched the movie Its quite nice but i have a few things to critizise. Due to the use of Fraps the picture quality is rather poor. Imagine the movie with such a quality: http://esteel.planetnexuiz.de/pics2/nexuiz000199.jpg . Its possible to capture really high quality images with the internal method DP offers.
There are far too many nexgun frags in the movie and the other weapons are hardly shown. I really love midiar rocket, grenade or electro hits. I guess many others also find those more impressing :).
An other weak thing (not actually in the movie but Nexuiz) is that there are no gibs. When you use cl_nogibs 1 to disable the gibs they are not in demo. It looks rather funny to just see the guys vanish with lots of blood but no gibs. I have gone back to cl_nogibs 0 but using a pk3 file to disable to gibs. At least for non ladder matches. This makes demos nicer.
The music is good and the clip selection is also nicely done. Maybe add a few more animated things. Your opponents names could be scrolling in or something.
Its indeed fun to watch the movie!

Thanks you very much esteel for all this advises i will try them for the next movie.
Fot the too many nex frags it is because I made the most of the frags with it.

I record demos with high.cfg and fps never drops below 25.

Nobody know a movie maker like ?
I cannot about it any more as of these plantings

If you have internet back you might want to visit #nexuiz.vid on quakenet.. You should be able to get advice there. I'm not into that stuff :)

as probably the first nexuiz vid it is ok. Hate the fov, but the gameplay looks fast and fluent with it like that as well.

like esteel said to many nex shot's, but it was a cool watch for first nex frag movie :)

My first movie try

Postby Cinquero » Fri Aug 25, 2006 4:51 pm

I have uploaded an 8 MBits/s MPEG-2 version to

http://www.archive.org/details/Nexuiz_2 ... o_20060823

It has a resolution of 1280x1024x25fps. I have used mencoder 1.0pre8 to create it

mencoder -audiofile dpvideo010.wav -audio-demuxer 20 -rawaudio channels=2:samplesize=2:rate=48000 dpvideo010.yv12 -demuxer rawvideo -rawvideo w=1280:h=1024:fps=25:format=yv12 -o /tmp/film2.mpg -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:vhq:vbitrate=8000:aspect=1.33 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=112 -of avi -ss 89 -endpos 432

was the command as I can remember it -- just in case someone cares and does not want to fiddle around for himself.

Use the -ss argument to determine the starting and ending positions within your video dump. -endpos determines the length, not the ending position...

Any suggestions for improvement of the video quality?

BTW: the file runs fine on my Athlon XP 2600+ (Linux/mplayer/nVidia GeForce Ti4800SE). You should probably not try running it on a much slower machine *g*.

BTW: the Makefile should contain the compiler argument -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 as otherwise the raw files have a limit of 2 GB (mine was approx. 45 GB)

whats the playtime of that clip ?

btw, plain mpeg2 is a fine format, but I don't think it is suitable for pure internet distribution, rather for DVDs. Internet distribution mostly means divx / xvid / x264 / quicktime where you can get very good quality with a 2pass 4 mbit setting.

432 seconds. One recorded match. Size does not really matter any more *g*.

I cannot play back x264 at this resolution, so I decided to use MPEG-2. Other formats are derived by the archive.org servers.

BTW: are all textures and sounds released under the GPL-2, too? Want to put a license on the vid.
