since I'm doing this kind of "work" that so many others do as well, I'm talking about sitting in front of a computer and doing stuff there, I finally have also time to do things like spamming the forums (:D) or do more reasonable things like coding the nexuiz ladder.
First of all, the Nexuiz Multi-Ladder system is going to be opened soon, in a few weeks. This will allow us to have several ladders at once hosted on a single page, including 1on1 and team vs. team ladders.
However, this is the "tournament" thread and I spent some time to test the phpTourney script again, especially because it received 1-2 bugfix releases in the mean time.
Either way, now I think that this tourney system is usable and suitable for our needs.
There are things that already have been discussed here, and some that still need to be, e.g. whether the original design (which really isn't the best) should be kept or not, or the mappool, etc.
About the things we already discussed:
After the script is running people will sign up there. After signing up they will have to send a mail to a given email address, including this:
- provide your userID of the nex 1on1 ladder
- use the same username as in the ladder when signing up on the tourney page
- use the same email like in the laddder too
- you already must have played at least 2 matches in the ladder
- send the email with the email account used for signing up on tourney (which must be the same email you use in the nex 1on1 ladder) to verify your identity
This is needed to make sure that no geeks will sign up who don't give a shit whether they show up at the matches or not
The mappool is not defined yet. If not enough maps are available (which depends on the number of signup because this number defines the number of played rounds) we will use maps twice (e.g. in decider map of round 1 and as map1 of round2)
I think it's best not to limit the number of signups. if there are e.g. 18 signups we will start a 32-player braket (with the setting that double-elimibation will start at 16 players and not right at the beginning/first round). of course this will mean to have a lot of default wins in the first round, however this won't hurt.
so what do you think ?
