I agree with esteel that it is harsh. Donating money to play is even more harsh I don't really have any better idea atm...

And I agree with Urmel that we have 1 or 2 test tournament(s) first, to see if it works ok, and maybe spot some bugs in the script..

When it comes to the elimination rules - I don't know. And how about seedings and stuff... I don't know how that works either

well, I studied the script a bit and I think it won't be THAT a big problem. There are certainly bugs in it but if the sign-up procedure is done correctly and if you don't do certain things (that actually aren't supposed to be a problem but some things hurt the system ^^, I had a situation where I had 4 signups but when I created the bracket only three players were in^^) the script should work as normal.

maybe someone could do a nice design for it ? would be awesome

Seeding wise, i'd prefer this but this just my oppinion.

Randomly matching pairs could be an idea also.

If you seed, you could do it via the ladder, or get someone like morfar or green to use there judgement on who should be seeded where.

I think a Tournament is a great idea!!
Some said they have no time for a Tournament because they have to their ladder matches but i think if they want they can do both a Tournamentmatch could be a ladder match.
