Brightskins are currently not allowed according to ladder rules.

As we all know, it can be really hard to spot an enemy sometimes. Because players can change shirt and pants color to blend in the map.
Brightskins is the solution, its commonly used in other fps games (games I can think of is qw,q3,ut/2k4/2k4,q4,pk). And it is needed in Nexuiz; I have made brightskins, screenshot below.

If they get allowed.. players are not forced to use them. And ppl can make thier own if they not like the color.

hmm, looks ehm green :) i don't know... on one hand i would welcome em, cause as you say it can be hard to spot enemies.

on the other hand it feels as cheating... or that it would take away certain aspects. i view being able to hide as part of the game

But ladder is new territory for me... please post views

well. These shown bright skins are simply a data hack which replaces the glow textures of all player models (and the grenate/rocket model) with green/red color. This is forbidden by the Ladder rules of course^^

I basically do like bright skins as well, because the sv_fullbrights feature actually doesn't make the skins too bright that I would already be satisfied with that. However, the current way of achieving this is not the right thing because you would always have to remove the file again if you play FFA (or let it in and play FFA as well), but this is rather a lame cheat then

You should allow them...


they are used as morfar says in all of the games, something needs to be done anyway to increase visibility, i used them in many games and they are really great, they should be allowed, or allowed to be disabled (up to players if they want to use them or not).

Of course, the brightskins should be allowed! One of the reasons I'm not sure whether to join the ladder is b/c they're not :). It would just feel strange to play vs someone who's blending in with the background.
Morfar's brightskins are great :). Just like almost everyone's enemycolor is q3:). I only wish it were possible to pick an enemymodel, too.
Really, why some people voted against brightskins? :(. Having them on would make the game considerably more intersting, aiming more easy, reacting to the enemy's presence quicker.. It's to everyone's advantage!

DO I really have to repeat myself ? Brightskins itself are great in my opinion, but there already is a serverside option for it, and it IS enabled for all ladder servers. This option makes the skins already brighter (but doesn't colorize them to full green or so). The fullbrightskins shown in morfars screenshot is HACKING (!) the data files. This means to modify the game. This means to break the rules, this means to cheat, this means to get banned if seen on screenshot, this means that this kind of achieving fullbrights will not be allowed. I hope you understood it.

PS: I really appreciate fullbright-colorized skins as well, but as long as there is no option for it (serverside or CSQC) you can forget this for now. Same goes for this "nogibs" package. It's hacking the gamefiles to replace the gibs. Sure, this won't affect gameplay in anyway, the only advantage you have is more FPS, but in a 1on1 game it won't make ANY difference whether you have nogibs package or not anyway, because 1on1 is no slaughter festival with lots of gibs anyway

if you are so keen to have fullbright skins that are colorized you might ask the coders to include some kind of serverside option (useable by cvar, default "off") so that the server also colorizes the enemy model and makes them full bright green (This would also be cool as you might chose your crosshaircolor like you want it to be without affecting your skincolor)

okay, here's an update:
I asked div0 in the #alientrap channel and he said that would be able to code a serverside option that will enable fullbrights that are colored. This means that a second set of textures for all the models would be introduced in v1.6, which means that everyone has these textures by default and there's no need to hack files. However, these textures will only be used if the server cvar is set to 1 (which is not the default, default = 0).

However, div0 is asking for a better set of textures than the "just plain green" textures that m0rfar used in his screenshots.
