Great :). Though plain green is still the best color, imho. Well, it also depends on the map coloring.
Btw I didn't suggest to allow hacks with my post, sorry to make the wrong impression :). I voted yes to introduce the ability for the player to enable\disable brightskins at will, maybe in future versions of the game (and so that there'd be no problem with server cvars, too).

While i agree that some if not most player models blend in with the background, i'm strictly against full brightskins. Especially if they are all GREEN. Improving the models and shading would be greatly welcomed, but I cetainly don't want to shoot anything just green. That's a quick way of getting a headache.
Anywho, the ladder brights are quite nice and don't blend nearly as much as on regular servers so I really don't get what this hissy fit is all about.
Maybe that's just my optinion and taste.

someone should re-skin the models with brighter textures (and color PARTS of it green, but not with plain green texture, rather so that they still have body parts that can be identified, e.g. head, etc.)

are players that desperate to gain advantage that code tweaking has become part of the game?

surely it should be the option of the player which colour he is seen as, rather than the opponent choosing.

why not head towards a black walled playing arena, and superbright white players, and remove all the challenge the game offers other than making a direct killing hit.

if we quote other games that have gone this way lets also quote that 1000000000 flies cant be wrong: lets all eat shit.

im sad that some folks need to colour me green, i already feel like i have a target that says "im over here" :)

hissy fit : exactly. spiked skins anyone ?

I don't agree. Birghtskins are realy needed, EVERY SERIOUS multiplayer has this feature.

And btw. there are to points, that a player requires whilst playing classic 1on1, where only the refleyes and skill counts:

-ability to see EVERYTHING on the map clearly, including the NMY PLAYER
-ability to GET INFORMED about everything AT once (clear HUD).

okay, there have been many discussions in the #alientrap channel how to solve this

In v1.6 there will be three additional characters. These characters can't be chosen in the options menu. However, a server can set these characters as default-characters (e.g. on ladder servers) so that all players will get that character

The three characters I'm talking about are modified versions of the "Mulder" character, which is based on the "Nexus" skin. I chose that model because it's one of the biggest. Here you can see screenshot of the new characters:

The red one
The green one
The orange one

I also created aliases which could be votable on the server. e.g. "forcefullbright_green" (or ...red/orange) will set the default player model "Nexus" and the "skin" to the green skin. All players on that server will now use the green model. "forcefullbright_off" can disable that, ofcourse

There are also aliases for the player himself to chose a certain fullbrightskin. This could be useful if player A wants Player B to be yellow, while Player B wants Player A to red. Player A then enters "takefullbright_red" and Player B enters "takefullbright_yellow" .. and everyone is satisfied.

However, this is just the technical aspect for now, it is doable and these fullbrightskins are supposed to be included into v1.6. This would solve the problem of violating the rules because of hacking exisiting files. Of course there should be a defined rule setup for the handling of fullbrights, e.g. a rule that says that fullbrights are only allowed if both players agree, or "the challenged player choses whether to use fullbrights or not", etc.
