Team vs. team ladder - layout

Postby GreEn`mArine » Sun Apr 23, 2006 8:10 pm

Well. As many people would really like to have a Team vs. Team Nexuiz ladder (and I want that, too) I decided to write a layout for it. It's a collection of my thoughts about the Team ladder, basically the summary of things that would have to be added or modified in the 1on1 ladder script to have it a team vs. team script.

You can get the file (it's a Rich Text Format document) >>here<< !

Feel free to comment things or add suggestions in this thread. I'm pretty sure that I forgot some things.

However this here will end, I "think" that I will try to make the team vs. team ladder, however I would perhaps need help by 1-2 people. This would be fun anyway because I never had a team-project before and would like to do that! crashzor already put his fingers up and would provide help ;)

Actually the ideas seem to be nice but i'm not sure about this 'only one team' thing.. Ok it should not be the normal case but i think multible clans should be ok.
Also from the text it seems only one team can invite a new player at any time. Should be several teams.. Else its first come, first served.

I think the hardest part is how to change the elo system for team matches. Lets imagine we have a 2on2 ladder and each team has 4 members (2good and 2 weaker players). If we have only team elo points the weaker members will have problems once the team got much points. Maybe the individual elo points for the players that add up to the team elo points are nice there. So if the weaker players play a game the team has less elo points for calculation then if the stronger players play a game.
Like in the 1on1 ladder you just put the playera and playerb points into your elo function and get the new points, now you put (player1-team1 + player2-team1) and (player1-team2 + player2-team2) points into your elo function. And add/substract the points to/from the elo points of the actual players..

ehrm, the ELO system will remain the same as it used to be. The used scores are the two mapscores of each team. also it's the teams that get ELO points, not the individual players

Maybe the "how many teams may a player have" should be configurable. However I have to think about that first when I have time for it .. I basically don't like this idea of being in multiple teams (if there would be several team ladders, like 2on2 and a 3on3 ladder, these ladders would be individual installations anyway, with individual accounts and so also a individual membership in one team for each ladder)

I think it is okay to be able to only join one team at the same time. Most of the time, creating teams is not just "well I signup and join a team randomly" but rather organized teams of players that already know each other and discussed in IRC or somewhere else to have a team

ah, ah new thought: option for the teams to be "invite only" (and won't be bugged by noobs)

what I want to say is: you usually only signup at the team ladder to either create a new team because you already have some other players that will also signup and join your team, or the other way round, that you create an account to join an existing team (which you usually already know)

and "YES", the ladder will probably very small ;D

Multi-Ladder

Postby GreEn`mArine » Sun May 28, 2006 3:38 pm

okay, I've started to create a multi-ladder.

This means that only one installation is done. The one who installs it is the manager who can then create new ladders. he can e.g. create 2 ladders of "1on1" type and 2 of "team vs team" type. once you create an account you are not really assigned to a ladder yet, but you can simply chose any of the avalable ladders and click a "join ladder" button to be part of that ladder. This means that you can play in several ladders by only having 1 account!

As I said, I've just started to develop this and I think that it will take some more months to finish it, especially because I have to create so many new pages having to do with the backend, navigation and the team pages which offer different possibilites depending whether you're leader/coleader/member etc.

for all people interested in the progress: watch this:
