MOST needed gameplay feature: Adjustable game (player) speed

Postby megatux » Fri Jan 05, 2007 9:08 am

Nexuiz game speed is way too fast to be enjoyable for many people. Not everyone is a 13 year old male with near-precog reflexes, a 5000 dpi laser mouse, and a hyper-fast dedicated gaming PC. :)

There really needs to be a way to set game speed before entering a match. This can't be very hard to implement. All that should be needed is a scaler for the player's maximum speed and acceleration. Anyone familiar with the code care to add this for 2.2.2?

As a reference, can we purpose to allow "Quake4" style game play? (ie. realistic human foot-soldier movement speed)

It already is variable, however, only the server admin can configure it of course (since otherwise this would allow cheating).

It is also somewhere in the menu (in gamemodes/misc), but type "slowmo 0.8" on the console for slower gameplay. But yes, it may be a good idea to provide three configurations for that and maybe also different damage scaling like old UT had.

Making different players have different speeds in a match would be a bad idea... even if it is limited by a maximum value to avoid cheating, a slow player will have quite some disadvantage if everyone else on the server is fast. All players should have the same game speed on a server.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Where do you see reslistic human movement in Quake4?

Sure, not everybody likes fast movement fps games. I've heard about people, who cannot bare QW, becouse they head become dizzy after watching it for a few minutes.

I just think we need better background music, some of the stuff is really boring
(ex tracks 5, 6, 7, and 8)
Some are good though
(like 9 especially)

The problem with new music is the same as the problem with getting other new media - getting quality stuff under GPL ;) I like the soundtrack as is, though I do think it could do well to be expanded upon a bit.
