Ingame spammers

May sound a little funny that it's me of all people who's coming with this thread.
Especially on the minstagib servers it happens more and more that the grade of chatmessage spamming becomes beyond all bearing. I know I do a lot of flooding as well, but some new players are really hardcore spamming.

Kickvoting in most cases doesn't work because almost nobody notices the votes.
You can decrease the amount of displayed messages down to 0, but then you pass the valuable messages as well. I couldn't find a way to disable the most annoying thing for me, and this is the message beeps.
Other people than me are even more annoyed by the ingame spammers and prefer not to play public anymore.

Any ideas to handle that? What can we do about it?

Nexuiz could have some kind of flood protection. I even think it's a good idea. It should be a server option of course.

Yeh flood protection would be real nice. Once i get some spare time i may even have a shot at implementing this (lotsa reallife work for me atm..) unless someone beats me to it :)

A client side option would be nice too, but that seem mutch harder to do w/o csqc.

What about a filtering system to (temporarily) ignore certain users? E.g. "ignore # 5" (where the number is the status number, in which case it would remain active as long as that person is on the server or a second command is entered).

Preventing "flooding" will be a bit difficult because you will need to determine what "flooding" is. If someone has an "INCOMING" message keybind and hits it quickly four times in a row to indicate that there are four enemies approaching and then gets silenced/kicked, it would create a strategic problem.
