Zooooom

I was reading Xeno's page about keybinds, and came across:

you could bind shift to an alias that binds messages to your movement keys when you hold it down and resets them when you let it go. You can also create an enhanced zoom alias that is much more powerful than the regular in-game zoom

Assuming this is true, would this be considered cheating/ unfair, especially for the nex or MG, like on Greatwall, where zoom is very helpful? Also, isnt weapon zoom done serverside? :|

Anyone can do it. It's no big deal.

Explicit instructions were previously posted. Hell, there was even several different versions you could just copy and paste straight into your cfg.

still, it seems like it would give an unfair advantage to people who know what to do... :?

It all falls down to changing the fov and mouse sensitivity. And we all know that is allowed and you can play with as high or low fov respectively sensitivity you want :)

I know many things a n00b doesnt know. Like most of those who've been playing this game for a long time. Advantage, of coz, unfair? Strange logic...

For example, I'd call r_showsurfaces a cheat on dm_augenkrebs :P
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I do not consider this cheating, its just using knowledge. Cheating is altering game content or using external help to do stuff others can't do with ingame methods.
I'm not sure what you mean with 'weapon zoom'. You can bind a general zoom feature in the Options/Controls menu that you can use with any weapon and thats also the same thing you get as secondary fire mode for the nexgun. Its just that i really dislike this thing. That slow zoomin/zoomout makes me feel sick after some time.

More to the point, the slow zooming really messes you up when you want to make a quick snipe, because, well, it's slow. Or if you're zoomed in and someone attacks you, you can't instantly snap to a different fov. It's really hard to return fire when your fov is sort of lurching back to normal in a sickening tunnel-vision-like way. Zooming in is like being drunk and stoned and holding your breath until you start to pass out; zooming out is like being in that nearly-passed-out state and then slowly throwing up.

There speaks the voice of experience.

You're right though. Zooming's only really useful for the nex IMO.

uhm no i think the zoom is useful for the nexgun and the machinegun secondary fire mode and also on some huge maps just to have a better look at some spots. If find it useful on greatwall to have a better look at the 'great' wall to see if if snipers are there.
