Passing through another player

Postby Dokujisan » Fri Feb 16, 2007 9:50 pm

I am not sure if I'm just imagining this or not, so I thought I would ask.

Sometimes when I am attacking someone in close quarters, I tend to lose where my enemy went. They seem to disappear during the commotion. I rotate left. I rotate right...then it turns out they somehow got behind me. Sometimes this results in me dying. It can be a little confusing and frustrating. I do my best to keep my distance from aggressive players who will run straight toward me during an attack (usually newer players). That way I don't lose sight of them. I've compensated, but I'd really like to understand how that happens.

Now I'm on a wireless LAN at home (don't ask...not my fault) and I don't have the best computer or the best ping time... so it could be a technical issue or a frames-per-second issue (obviously I never think to look at my FPS during that moments) but it really seems to be that a player is able to pass through another player.

Is that possible?

I would think that when a player runs toward anther player and they collide that one would bounce off the other one slightly. How is collision between players handled by the game engine?

players cannot completely pass through each other.

in close combat situations, try switching to "chase_active 1" for a 3rd person perspective
also, keep in mind that your weapons fire from your weapons, meaning that they'll fire from your right hand, and not from your center.

Heh, were you playing me? This is a favorite tactic of mine—especially if I have a weaker weapon. Rush the enemy while firing, dodge whatever he sends my way if possible, and in the confusion do a sideways jump while rotating 360, so that I sort of leap over his shoulder and end up shooting him in the back.

This doesn't always work of course; an experienced opponent can really mess you up if you do this, and sometimes I find that I do my twisty jump only to discover that I have no idea where my man has gone (he's side-strafed and rotated 180 so that he's just out of my fov; cunning sob). But that's just part of the fun!
