What to do about the 1 second refire time when switching guns?

Yup, I agree with S3cc0. I always have and always will consider this as an exploit, for the simple reason that the devs made the refire rate for nex higher, wanting the nex not to be as useful. But with this exploit it is just the same as before, only that the noobs have a harder time than the experienced ones.

I admit, I do use this exploit to the fullest content, but I would love for this to end, wait the 1.5 secs. Create a equal possibility for all players, not benefit the witty ones (and the already more skilled).

Although it is true that it actually takes more concentration and skill to do this. My aim has gone down because of using this exploit as I concentrate more on firing faster than firing accurately. But still, sometimes I hit every time, depends now how my day and luck is, thus making me deadly.

This poll should not be taken seriously because it is mutually inexclusive, it does not properly reflect all the possible viewpoints toward abusing weapon switching.

Personally, this is a horrible elitist exploit, yet some people prefer this in order to give them a significant advantage, and thus a higher 'yield' of enjoyment, at the expense of others on online.

What could be done to ease the situation, is creating separate refire counter for each weapon, and then possibly increasing the DPS of the Nex [currently 77.8, second to the laser in terms of potential DPS] back to the previous level of 115.4 or higher, with another type of penalty, such as a delay before firing, instead of refire [maybe even tacking on a damaging explosion at the impact :idea:].

Increase switch delay?
Decrease nex refire?

There are
players very fast,
players with great aim,
players with nice strategy,
players with a grat sense of orientation when moving in maps ...

sure nex is deadly weapon in hands of a fast player with a great aim.

Maybe increase AMMO attribute for nex?

I not have a clear idea.

I do consider it a bug. Intented was, that one can switch from Nex to RL and then fire a rocket faster. Unintended was that one can switch back to the Nex. However, I have no idea how to _cleanly_ solve this. Making a new refire time counter for each weapon would be cool, but would probably get quite complicated to do afterwards (especially when you have to fight fteqcc bugs). Also, that would eliminate the 1s refire time when switching from Nex to other weapons - but still enfore the 1.5s when switching back. I would think that would be best... but the poll disagrees. Looks like we have to keep the bug...

Or what would you think about this?

In terms of code:

.float attack_finished_of[NR_WEAPONS];

Each occurrence of attack_finished gets changed to attack_finished_of[self.weapon]

Every time self.weapon is changed, the validity of attack_finished_of[self.weapon] is ensured

Then:

Fire Nex -> Switch to Laser -> fire instantly -> switch back to Nex -> wait remaining time -> fire
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I do agree that the 1.5 sec refire time was introduced for a reason (making the nexgun less powerful, as it is stated to be too powerful atm). I liked the possibility of being able to still have the 1.0 sec refire time (and I meant this because of the "penalty" of being distracted ebcause of manually switching weapons, so I discard this discussion about scripting for the moment) and I use this bug (it IS a bug) as well. But I would also agree that is is better to remove the bug, but keeping the possibility to fire another weapon after the nex faster, just as stated above by div0. I think this is simply the best solution, and leads to a wiser usage of the nexgun.

I cannot agree though to all these fancy ideas of "overheated" nexgun or any warm-up time of the nex or ridiculous reload times of 2+ seconds.
