I've seen a demo of Dresk playing his mod. Just mindblowing  Best. Player. Evahhh!!!
No wonder he doesn't worry about friction, i wouldn't too if i could play like that :)

But still, having played on a european spidflisk server without lag, to me reduced friction is more of a hindrance, and i can't really understand what its benefits are supposed to be. Most of the other changes are really sweet though, the higher and faster jumps, instant weapon switching (man, Dresk sure knows how to make a combo ), animations, etc..
Ironically the mortar's secondary shot is one of the things that i would need more getting used to as its use is very different in spidflisk. Namely it's pretty difficult to shoot nades to high places (i kept trying to move forward and jump to gain a bit more range, that's why i earlier mentioned the lack of newtonian physics).
And what KadaverJack said is very true :?

I've never seen any of this demos.

Connecting to a Spidflisk server could very well be the first time a player has had to deal with such a thing.

Well if they read the server name and also the connection screen, they'll see that this is a modification of the standard Nexuiz. So I don't see how this is a problem.
It also gives the player much less control, so basic manuever and tricks from vanilla Nexuiz don't work or are made more difficult, and that can be very frustrating.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you mean here. I consider myself well versed in most of the Nexuiz moves/tricks/skill and I have no trouble performing on Spidflisk. I would need an example of precisely which maneuver's or tricks you're having problems with. The less control part is not exactly correct. The player just needs to be more aware of their surrondings/movement. I'll be the first to say that Spidflisk probably isn't for the newer Nexuiz players or for newer fps gamers, but for those who have been playing for some time now, it shouldn't be that difficult.

All I'm saying is that Spidflisk, aside from the friction which everyone seems to hate (excluding me) is really a great mod. You honestly can't tell me all you noticed about Spidflisk was the friction?

And for ppl with high pings it's totally uncontrolable. (bumping into walls all the time is not so much fun...)

I'll just agree with you here as I've never played it with a high ping. I don't doubt it though, however, g_antilag is not on so that may be some of the problem. But, if server closer to those who have a high ping would run the mod then that would solve the problem. :) I know Ronan put up a Spidflisk Mod server, which is currently located in France.

my movement is delayed on this server, as if the server would forbid cl_movement

besides, just fyi: g_antilag just deals with the nexgun/MG/shotgun shots to get re-aimed because of lag, it doesn't have anything to do with movement.

ahh, I remember that demo :-)

That was my first real experience playing an advanced player. Well, that and playing the spidflisk mod. I didn't know how to laser jump very well and I was pretty much only good with the RL. I didn't know jack about map control or weapons combos. Man that was a mind-expanding experience to see that.

I couldn't tell how much of that domination was from the mod and the low ping time for Dresk until I saw the demo. It definitely showcases Dresk's skill. It's good to see demos like this because it provides a good goal to aim for.

BTW, did you know that Dresk is going to be in the North American 1v1 Tourney :-o
This is a big deal because he doesn't even like normal Nexuiz gameplay, and he had basically given up on playing Nexuiz recently. Somehow, he agreed to participate. I'm very happy about that. I expect to see him vs Usil in the finals.
