projectile visibility and dodging

Postby fronten » Thu Jun 12, 2008 10:40 am

From playing Quake3 i am used to have an overview of all the projectiles flying.
with Nexuiz i especially have a problem with the rockets' visibility.

On Quake3 i see a nicely drawn Rocket actually riding on a ball of Light with a nice dense smoke trail.
With Nexuiz.. i only see a small sparse smokey trail, which clearly does NOT say 'Hey, here comes a big hitter'! (this makes actually dodging rockets a no-go..)

So the question is: how to improve the weapon shots' visibility?
i am thinking of settings for trail width, color, length and time, or such..

i don't know as far as console commands go, but try increasing the particle quality in the effects menu to get more visible RL trails

gl_flashblend 1 did help a lot, as told by some friendly guy named div-Verent.
thank you mate, now i see at least the rockets coming in on me ;)

maybe i should have mentioned that my hardware is quite low end for Nexuiz, being an Athlon XP 2000 with an PCI-Radeon 9200..

Ah, now I see why your system possibly is slower than the Mac mini I had tested Nexuiz on... the 9200 in the Mac mini is onboard (and probably AGP), while your 9200 is PCI. As bandwidth is a big problem there, maybe you can try to increase gl_picmip higher than the menu allows (like, to 10).

To make it take effect, do a r_restart. And make sure r_picmipworld is 1.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I don't think the rocket should be "dodge-able". It should be faster and deadlier!

And then people spam with rockets, just like they do with the crylink.

whilest it was/is my favourite weapon in Quake3, i personally dislike the rocket launcher of Nexuiz.. sort of slow moving rockets, odd looking and hard to predict its flight vector when coming in..

anyway: ist there a way to change the projectile trails - its color, density, width, persistence?

like as such: cg_railtrailtime XXXX(ms) to define the longevity of the Nexuiz rail trail (if it would actually work, hahaha)

No, there is no way to change that other than changing effectinfo.txt, and that's considered cheating and will e.g. get you banned from the ladder.
