Generally.. do not be evil.

Everything else is just shades of the same thing :). I hope people will take this forum as a good example for this ;)

Well, Oblivion...We have our differences. Let's face it. You hate me because I'm a little harsh to some noobs. Surprisingly I agree to and manifest most of the rules you listed in this thread as my own. The one exception is chat-fragging. You may not get chat-fragged often because most people know you have admin privileges. I get chatfragged all the time but I don't get angry about it...I simply chatfrag too. If "No Chatfragging'' were a rule that mostly everyone abided by, then I would try to abide to it too. To me, chatfragging is simply a consequence of the game. A lot of people abuse chat and whine about chat-fragging. Some of the most ridiculous instances I've seen:

* Enemy Chatfragged in our base, just a few yards from our flag, and whining about it.
* Enemy Chatfragged while hiding and holding our flag and whining about it.
* Enemy chatfragged while hiding and the "Chat" icon is not visible because it is obscured by the environment, and whining about it.
* Enemy out in the open and chatfragged from halfway across the map by a nex, and whining about it.
* Enemy actively attacking, is suddenly surrounded and outnumbered, immediately goes into chat, is immediatley Chatfragged and whines about it.
(I see this one a lot. It makes me laugh)

Many of these same people who complain about being chat-fragged go off and chatfrag somebody else. I guess their philosophy is "do as I say, not as I do".

Seriously, If I'm going to have a long conversation with someone, I often just spec, knowing full well that my score drops to zero. This is a FPS game first and foremost. If people want to spend most of the time chatting without consequences, they should just forget Nexuiz and run an IRC client.

:P

Here's some more bad manners: There is a player who nags me all the time, except when he's on my team. I will not mention his name but players who know me on Gault's server might know who I'm talking about. His biggest gripe is camping. If i'm at my base and defending my flag, I'm "camping and have no skill". If I'm using a nex while perched somewhere, I'm "camping and have no skill". If I'm using a nex and constantly moving around, I'm "camping and have no skill". If I kill him with a nex (my preferred weapon), I'm "camping and have no skill". If my team wins and his loses, I'm "camping and have no skill".

Today I got sick of his whining targeted directly at me so I told him: "If you think I'm doing something illegal, take a screenie and talk to the admin about it. Otherwise, be quiet. If you think all I am is a camper with no skills, please accept my challenge for a 1vs1 match. Otherwise, be quiet."

Maybe its time again for this funny thing:
Image
alias say_camp "say CTF is defending not camping! It is not the responsibility of a defender to leave the objective unguarded just so his opponent sucks less!!!"

And i'm not sure anymore were i got it from but i have it on an alias so i can say it quickly:
alias say_camp2 "say stop camping??? i'm not camping but if you stop attacking i'll stop DEFENDING!"

:)

Nice one esteel. Can always rely on Ctrlaltdel for words of gaming wisdom.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

Actually I don't mind typefragging much. When I stop in the middle of the game to type, I pretty much expect to die. But those who don't practice typefragging enhance the game atmosphere by making it seem like scoring is not the only thing that matters.

However, when I chat in the enemy base (especially near the enemy flag) or when I chat when I'm FC, I expect to be typefragged. The only time it becomes rude is when you typefrag somebody who's just spawned, somebody who went out of the way to hide and chat, or somebody well within the confines of their own base.

Well, Oblivion...We have our differences. Let's face it. You hate me because I'm a little harsh to some noobs.

well... yeah. LOL. I hated you once because you're arrogant ingame. You blame all losses on your team, you leave the game early when your team is losing, and you do have a penchant for camping LOL (which I don't mind, given that I can see it really is for defense).

LOL, I know who it is. It's not so much your camping and nex skills he's mad at but your past rudeness. :P Did you know, a lot of people once shared his view? In several conversations once you were mentioned with the BDE's and The Apothem who are probably some of the rudest players. But atm, I can see you've changed a bit, and really want to change, for the good, so yeah, he should stop targeting you.

Oblivion wrote:1) Taking only ammo once you've picked up that particular weapon already.

Yes, do that.

Oblivion wrote:2) When an enemy takes the time to avoid typefragging me, I return the favor by not pursuing him once I've finished chatting. Often I will try not to frag him until after my next death.

Yes do that, but I don't wait till I die. I just run away and lose that guy, if I run into him again, he will die :D

Oblivion wrote:3) When I get to an enemy base and a team member is already there waiting for the flag, I don't grab the flag and let him have it. After all, first come, first serve.

I sometimes do that. If it's someone I know will lose the flag I try to take the flag before him as that means more points to the enemy team. However with the new system in place, where returns do not matter (Lazy Dog server and future Nexuiz versions) I might just do as you do.

Oblivion wrote:4) When an FC is in the base waiting for the retrieve, I don't take any HP/Armor powerups nearby.

Yes, do that, leaving stuff for the FC.

Oblivion wrote:5) When I see our FC coming back from the enemy base, I cover his back by doing my best to slow down the pursuers even if it means I die. :P

Yes, do that.

Oblivion wrote:6) After a successful flag capture, I take the time to defend the base until another team member makes a flag cap.

Yes, partially do that. I wait to see if he got any pursuers after him, if so I finished them off, once the base is cleared I go on with my own business.

Oblivion wrote:7) I try to say sorry everytime I teamkill accidentally.

Partially do that, if I'm not too busy having the flag, or chasing the flag or being chased.

Type Fraggiing.

I try to remember not to kill them. I don't spend a lot of time worrying about it. I don't expect to survive long if I'm typing instead of playing.

More careful the nearer I get to the enemies' base. I figure that's a place where chatting is appropriate.

Pretty ruthless once they get close to our base. Inside our base--you're dead. Find a better place to talk. Especially since what someone is chatting about is probably game-related like telling his teammates the location of our FC.

Weapon-Hogging!

Starting to drive me a little batty. I see idiots who are sniping with the Nex in EvilSpace run over to the mortar and grab it, then go right back to Nex sniping.

It is very, very hard not to teamfrag such individuals.

On the other hand, I've been working harder to be a nice teammate regarding picked up weapons I don't use. Like the Nex in GreatWall and GasolinePowered. I try to grab it when I'm passing through, then bring it back and drop it in front of a teammate who might like to use it.

When I feel like weapon hogging, I invade the enemy base and scarf up all their good shit. Very satisfying.

Also, I very much appreciate and am trying hard to follow the rule of taking only ammo once I have the basic weapon. Best example is the Rocket Launcher in GreatWall. Nothing is worse than having some noob who already has the rocket leap up and clear out eveything just as we get a multiple assault and I end up trying to stop someone who is rocket bouncing out using either the laser or the shotgun.

Weapon hogs never seem to be very good at using them.
