Good Manners

Postby Oblivion » Sun Aug 03, 2008 2:21 am

What do you consider good manners in nexuiz? Here are some of mine. I try to practice them every time, and I hope others do this too:

1) Taking only ammo once you've picked up that particular weapon already.

2) When an enemy takes the time to avoid typefragging me, I return the favor by not pursuing him once I've finished chatting. Often I will try not to frag him until after my next death.

3) When I get to an enemy base and a team member is already there waiting for the flag, I don't grab the flag and let him have it. After all, first come, first serve.

4) When an FC is in the base waiting for the retrieve, I don't take any HP/Armor powerups nearby.

5) When I see our FC coming back from the enemy base, I cover his back by doing my best to slow down the pursuers even if it means I die. :P

6) After a successful flag capture, I take the time to defend the base until another team member makes a flag cap.

7) I try to say sorry everytime I teamkill accidentally.

Anyone who has played with me knows I kill my teammates almost constantly on those space levels, but its unintentional  .

I believe that would be me :D

Got typefragged so typed "Thanks for the typefrag" and pressed Enter without realising your apology message was there already :P

By the way, manners should be used frequently in terms of making Nexuiz more fun and enjoyable - unfortunately many people don't respect that terms.. Which is the reason I stopped playing in Galts :(

Worst bit I encountered was in spyglass map on Galts - FC lost his flag in our base so I killed the enemy and went for the flag sitting in front of me. One particular player with attitude, RLed me from behind and grabbed the flag himself when he had 100 points already (while I only had just joined the game). I complained but since then he criticised Militia and hated us for being "not a clan".

Just one of those things that really spoils the gaming experience... my 2 cents.

Thats lousy. I hate it when people shoot me off weapons especially but shooting off a flag, thats just lame. First come first serve for the sake of the team if the FC drops the flag.

Don't join games without considering things such as team balance. I see many regulars show up and join a winning team or ruin a balanced game. Just because "auto" told you to join one team doesn't mean that it's the best team to join. Sometimes it might even be better to just wait a few minutes for <someone else to join/the match to finish/to see if one team really needs you>.

It's really inconsiderate when someone shows up and joins a balanced 1vs1 game... just wait a while instead.

Once you have a weapon, don't pick it up again in your base just to get more ammo. Step around it and just collect the ammo next to it. Also, if there are only a few weapons in your base, only take one. There are too many people who grab everything then run out to get killed while the defender is left lasering people off the flag.

I agree with balanced games sometimes it can just be best to sit out a round. I tend to unbalance games as will a lot of you folks. I've often just specced one of the people and given them tips and encouragement.

Don't exaggerate. A few seconds are enough (in DM), in which I usually try to get away.

In CTF I even do typefrag in some situations, eg. when stealing the flag. It happened to me more than once that I entered the enemy base, saw an enemy chatting, took the flag, ran away... and was shot in the back by the chatter. :(

I make that a bit dependent on my status. If I have health/armor=50/0, naturally I don't take the flag. if I come in with 250/250 and good weapons I try to take the flag.

Gave up doing that. :(
I would be spamming if I tried.... (playing too many space maps)

8 ) I try not to leave in the middle of the game.

Now a particular clan member snatched the flag under my nose when I went for it while i was INCHES away from it.. I complained but apologised in the end for complaining and that specific clan member said to me :

"you were slow, I did not have the time to wait :P"

"I do what I want :P"

Are these good manners?
