Correct me if i'm wrong but in the svn nex damage was reduced to 130, at least on the .de green's svn server. I believe it is quite still an ok weapon and i personally like it like that.

Alpha you started all this so im directing this at you and all other new players . although you may not be new to nexuiz this fits what im about say

my first day on nexuiz i got nexed so bad as with the folowing months . i hated the nex and refused to use it simply because i couldn aim . as time passed by i learned many tricks abou nexuiz i.e jumps strafing movement . i used to be a rocket whore noob untill i learned the nex . i plyed minsta to to get better at the nex and then played ctf . i will tell you nex is my fav weapon because of the skill i takes to use it . and the skill it takes to evade it . i asume you want the nex damage to be lowered because you have no skill as of yet . honestly im not being a badger to you and not saying yer a noob . all it takes is time to undersatnd what the devs have done with the game . its hard to kill with nex . its hard to kill with rocket . unlwss you time it right . these are the most powerfull weps . anyone can crylink spam or electro spam . ie no skill . all im sayin is take the time to learn the weapon . play some minsta . i did , but i still get owned on it . i am a better player for it and have gootten much better a the nex . many players have noticed i kill with it more often , and i must say it feels good to know i did it with skill , not spam balls or crylink hopes .
look im not saying yer a newb , but you started the thread and i recommend you understand the game before you try to manipulate it . try some minsta for a month . learn how to lead target , predict movement . the nex is one of the favorite weapons because it takes skill to use . dont be mad because someone preffers the nex over a weaker weapon that doesnt use skill at all . learn it , adapt it , own it , become better . dont try to make the game fit you . im sorry if this hurts anyones feelings , but i had to overcome this in my early nexuiz days . but now im not so bad .

My only concern is that there isn't a way for mapmakers to limit the ammo for the nex without limiting the ammo for a bunch of other weapons.

Against a reason to remove hitscan weapons because it's easy to make an aimbot. We could remove multiplayer support and stick to single then as well. ;)

Hitscan weapons removed from game = too good to be true.

On the other hand there would be no way to catch a flag carrier on certain maps (or tactics would need to be changed drastically).

You CAN remove hitscan weapons like this:

g_weaponreplace_nex campingrifle
g_ballistics_force 1

Then MG and SG shoot fast projectiles, and Nex is replaced by the camping rifle (using projectiles too, faster ones however).
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Since the camping rifle was introduced in svn, no need to change deeply the nexgun : keep the high damage and long refire (1.5s), this way is balanced in DM.

However, I'm not against a damage reduction. It was reduced in svn from 140 to 130. A fresh spawned players (150 hp) is still very vulnerable in a large open map or a space floater when snipped, because with 20 hp left he can't make a laserjump to quickly escape or hide. To fix that, either reduce nex damage to 120, or be sure the self damage caused by a laser jump is strictly inferior to 20 hp.
