Nexuiz differs from mainstream games in the fact that we have a lot of say in how things are architectured and every individual involved in the game contributes in some way or another.

Coming from mainstream games like Halo, I had thought that it was okay to 'shout' profanities and treat other players like it ~was a point based game~. This ego-centric attitude soon had a reformation as my understanding of not only Nexuiz but the open-source community grew.

Respect is a word we all know and think we understand. However, the definition is foggy as the true definition is a consensus based on distributed knowledge and awareness of the subject. We are still a rather small community and we are constantly learning and evolving together. It is essential that we keep the respect high if we wish to keep the community strong and development moving forward.

It's important to consider not just yourself or how you THINK others are reacting to a situation but to step back and view the community as a whole and ask yourself, "what is best for this community?"

Through this methodology and countless numbers of hours in-game and in this community (IRC, Forum, etc). I've been playing with people from all different backgrounds on all different servers, and have come to learn the negative repercussions of sour attitudes, trolling, team-killing and type-fragging.

These negative actions promote other negative actions and a wave of negative energy will pass through the community, yet some try to argue it's helpful in some self-serving way. This is referred to as the Broken Window effect. If it's not contained, it can become a tsunami and wipe us out both mentally and figuratively. By devoting resources to fend against these negative energies, we are wasting time that could otherwise be inspirational by collaborating with others to build new features in or around the game.

If you disagree and still like to typefrag, smack talk and/or team kill, I for one, don't want to play with you.

Well there is such a thing as taking things (such as fragging someone in a game) a little too seriously.

Plus I don't think Gandhi meant online first person shooters as much as other aspects of the world.

In short, typefragging is bad in the long-term because it spreads anger.

Rad's just upset I put him on ignore on IRC.

Eventhough I expect this to be followed by some wise ass comment, I thought I'd try and put this into perspective.

It was assumed president Obama would help bridge the racial divide. In Boston the other day, cops asked a black man for identification when they saw him trying to break into a house. He cried 'racist', Obama supported his cries.

While some might see this as Obama looking out for minorities, what has his action really done? Made it harder for cops to do their jobs.

I apologize for using politics as an example. I'm not trying to push a political agenda about Obama, just give a pop culture example of how seemingly little things can make a big difference.

My point again is that by supporting this negative energy, you're promoting more negative energy.
