Weapon kickback

Postby Mr green » Sun Oct 04, 2009 10:51 pm

iv been playing 2.5.2 and I'm finding the kick from weapons fire a little annoying (note not the damage kick). the fact that every time I fire the weapon, my view jumping up and down not only is this distracting but hurts my eye's, an I have to take a break before I get a headache. is there any way I can turn this off :?:

Yes its in the player menu. I have the same issue I find the blur/kick extremely annoying.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

I know, not everyone seems to like it sadly. It does look pretty though!

I agree that it is well done and looks good, but it is rather an annoyance in the heat of the battle. I constantly get the impression I'd need new glasses. Maybe I get hit too often.

I guess it is best used for video recording.

What you're actually talking about is the recoil setting, which is serverside - g_norecoil.

If you want you can test with it locally, but I will not disable recoil on my servers.

I actually like it alot, but I had to stick with it for an hour or two to get used to the kick whenever I got hit. I think if other folks did the same they'd become acclimated to it as well.

This feature might get better acceptance though if its max damage kick angle or whatever was lowed a bit, since when you take heavy damage, you are in trouble enough without having your view knocked around so much. I still kind of like this though amount of kick though, I'll keep testing to see if I get used to it as well.

I find in general that the damage kick makes you more aware of when you are getting in trouble, so that you end up responding to attacks faster and sooner and thus might end up taking less damage in a fight.

The blur is a bit over the top on default setting, but I love the feel that the kick back brings and find that I actually play better with it.

Yes, this is intentional. You see, no matter what I do, screen motionblur is FPS dependent. Basically, the lower the FPS the lower the visible effect of motionblur. (And vice versa.) So I have to compromise somewhere in the middle, favoring ~100fps to have a perfect value, where 60fps is a decent look, and 200fps is an exaggerated look... Can't help it.

Object based blur would be far better for any FPS, as it isn't FPS dependent.. (Crysis for example uses object based blur for many of its effects, including depth of field and motionblur.) But it's hard to implement, and takes about 10% more video card resources than my implementation. Also, it doesn't work in a good way on AGL, while mine works on any OS.
