When I first installed the game and started playing, I thought I had input lag. Turns out it was not lag, but simply how the way the player moves. So I got used to it and have enjoyed the game very much since then. I dueled k0jak tonight and he showed me a few things of what is possible with those physics, it was great (thanks!).
However I couldn’t stop from thinking that movement in Nexuiz could be a lot more precise. The game is very newbie-friendly because of strenght of weapons, balance, armors, etc. The gameplay is very fast and it’s also very easy to bunnyhop and do tricks. But it could be much better I think. The fast gameplay kinds of contradicts itself by having slow response time to movements. This is of course only my opinion.
Here’s an explanation of what I mean: When you change direction, say you are strafing left and then quickly want to strafe right, it takes take too much time before the player actually starts moving the other way. He has to slowdown, change direction, then accelerate again. So it feels like you always have a weight following you around. I'm pretty sure this is what the guy that reviewed the game on boomtown.net was refering to when he said that the "controls feel somewhat unresponsive".
I played with a few settings and found one called sv_accelerate that is set to 5.5 by default (it sets acceleration time from when you are stopped to max speed when walking). By changing it to a higher number makes movement much more “tigh” and makes moving around a lot more comfortable. By changing it, it would accelerate the gameplay without actually having people run faster. It would make the game a lot more competitive because of everything involved in movement, ie: dodging, jumping, tricks, etc. and also make the game a lot more impressive to watch.
Anyway, just try it. Try sv_accelerate 12 and see what I mean. Only problem I can see is that the “tilt” or “bob” of the screen when changing strafe direction looks ridiculous (which can be disabled/changed anyway).
I can’t see why something like this couldn’t be accepted for competitive play such as duels or 2on2s.
Also, someone should make a mod that let people control game settings more easily without an admin. Like typing 1on1 console would change maxplayers to 2, or setting it to ffa or any other mode, changing timelimit, etc. simply by a voting system. Since there arent a lot of servers yet it would help. I wish I had any programming skills

I think air-control is fine like this btw.
Hmm I kinda forgot about other things I was going to mention. Anyway you’re probably tired of reading already =)
What do you guys think?
