Should the grapple block your current weapon from shooting or not?

Yes, I'm beside of blocking the weapons. Offhand grapple suxx!

I wouldn't mind trying it (the onhand grapple or the boobies) to see how it affects gameplay.

But certainly make it optional (the onhand grapple, that is). :-)

I like the way tribe vengeance did it. Basically, Onhand grapple, except if a line drawn from the claw couldn't get to the player unobstructed, it would ungrapple. And, you could take the grapler, switch weapons, and it would remain grappled. You were just a sitting duck.

If something interfered with the grapple, it would release?

I think it's fine the way it is now and see no real reason to change it.

Yeah, but what if it were optional? Some people might prefer it. It's good to have choices.

I think what hes saying is that if an object (like a piece of the map) comes between the grapple and the player, it becomes undone. Think of using the hook to pull yourself into a teleporter on facing worlds. Once you exit through the destination, it would ungrapple automatically instead staying active.

As for making it onhand or offhand, how about having an instant death melee weapon only be active when grapple is engaged??

I think those are the two possibilities, make the hook release if something intersects with it or make it block the weapons. Should help to make the hook more balanced. Maybe even both via a control variable is good..

cutting the rope if it intersects with something makes the hook pretty much useless, since that can happen way too often on most maps. However i would really like if the rope would wrap around edges, but that's kinda tricky to code :(
But just releasing the hook if someone steps trough a teleporter would be a good idea imho...
