Not nice FPS with a very nice (I assume) PC

Postby cica » Tue Aug 26, 2008 6:41 pm

On "Low" detail settings my FPS range is 49-73
On "Ultimate" detail settings my FPS range is 44-77

There doesn't seem to be much difference to me whatsoever!

Doesn't this mean my FPS is bottlenecked exclusively by my Processor/RAM/FSB?

Specs:
E6600 Core2 Duo (2x2.4Ghz, 2x2mb L2 Cache, 1066mhz)
2x1GB DDR2 667mhz
8800GT

Nothing overclocked.

I can appreciate the game would probably only use one core, but this is still a little strange, right?

Thanks in advance!

Looks a good PC to me. and around 50 is pretty good. That's my standard FPS in american servers. You need to get used to it I think.

Wow, thanks for the quick response. That's fair enough, I just assumed maybe it ought to be higher.

Thankyou!

I've found out what the problem is, having both Vsync in Nexuiz and Vsync forced on in my Nvidia Control panel HUGELY hinders my FPS. Either on is fine and smooth. Hopefully someone else can learn from this :D

Np, I'm not really a Techie. I just play nex, don't wanna know much about how PC's works. I only know about video cards.

(techie is someone who knows a lot about technical stuff. Own word)

That's pretty low, I get > 140fps on most maps on my nvidia 6600-non-GT with my heavily tweaked settings (somewhere between low and medium visually). Try turning off some of the HDR/bloom/reflection/shadow options.

Expect single-digit FPS on "ultimate" - its called that for a reason.

Also, what display resolution and/or AA settings are you using?

I was using default Ultimate and default Low settings and both gave me around 55 FPS, so this seemed a little odd to me. The display resolution I was testing it with was 800x600. The AA settings were off and 16x respectively I think.

The problem is now solved, it seems having Vsync on twice is very very bad for FPS!

I do now get >100fps with middley settings, which is good enough for me!

Your enthusiasm is appreciated, thanks all!

I doubt there is anything anyone can do besides filing a bug report at nvidia. Both 'the forcing' and choosing vsync in Nexuiz should do the same, enabling vsync. which DOES limit your FPS to your monitor refresh rate unless you also have trible buffering enabled! WHich seems to be the case for you.
When enabling both options creates problems it should be a bug in the drivers and other games should also have that problem..
