What's the best OS for Nex?

Not really, go with ubuntu or mint.
if you have a spare computer and want to learn linux, use funtoo.

If you want outright speed, stick to something spartan. Arch is doing wonders for me and with much less brokenness than Gentoo. Won't make a huge difference unless your system was once owned by Helen of Troy so don't expect magic 300% performance boosts from cflag orientated madness.

Xubuntu 9.04 here. Using Xfce because it appears to be most friendly DE for gaming. And I kinda like it.

I can vouche for a lighter window manager having games run better. Nexuiz runs awesome in wmii :-P

i get 300+ frames with the best graphics (consol cmds included) with my vista.

Yeah I know about that, but Xfce is light enough for me. Plus, it's the one lightweight WM that looks good :)

What do you have in that thing? I can almost max (lowered decal time and no HDR) the game on a 1280 x 1024 @ 32fps (capped) with my NVIDIA settings almost all the way up. If I uncap the frame rate it become unplayable.
