Other games (Urban Terror, Quake3, OpenArena, Tremulous, UT99, UT2004, etc.) work just fine, but I get a major FPS drop in Nexuiz, even with lowest settings on 640x480. Right now I have to use this in order to play the game. I'm fine with it, but I just wonder, why does it lag, and what can I do about it?

I'm not surprised. r_showsurfaces 3 is ideal for Atom based chips and was developed with the aim of them for things like Netbooks.

No, you shouldn't be able to run it with better settings unless your Atom system is a small form factor desktop system which might allow you to install a graphics card.
