Very poor performance on "old" computers

Postby Silence » Mon Aug 17, 2009 3:26 pm

I set a LAN party with some friend a few weeks ago, and I thought that would be great to play Nexuiz on a LAN. My pc is mid-end, but incredibly it was the best pc on the LAN. The rest were basic Pentium 4/Athlon XP with one GB RAM and a Radeon 9600/GeForce 5500. Of course you can't play CoD4 on those things with any high setting, but come on, its Nexuiz! On lower settings its like Counter Strike 1.6 or Quake 3!
But anyway, even with the minimum settings, on the smallest maps, their performance was terrible. I still don't know why they run so bad. Outdated OpenGL libraries?

Very strange the issues you got there. also the one you posted in the other thread about the fps drops you suffer.

Can you upload the config.cfg files you used there and post me a link? I'm gonna have a look then.

Wierd. The first thing I would recommend is dropping your particle quality, then decals, reflections, and HDR. You may also want to cap your fps to like 35 or 40.
I have left this website with the rest of the GPL Nexuiz community. You can find us at Xonotic.org

We found that by disabling OpenGL 2.0 the performance increased. The problematic card was an integrated Radeon X1250. Wiki says that card should support OpenGL 2.0.
We'll try to disable the vertex buffer and see what happens.

<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
<Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.
