Hi Timo.
Welcome to Nexuiz and the Forum.

www.hlsw.net). I like to integrate Nexius into HLSW and to make everything as simple as possible for my users i try to detect new installed games by looking for some predefined registry keys containing the installation path of one game.
I installed Nexius and since it has no installation program there exists no registry key containing the installation path.
So i ask myself if you could write the path of nexiuz.exe to registry every time nexiuz is started?
Its nice to see interest in Nexuiz by HLSW but i'm not sure if that registry thing is a good idea. When should that entry be removed again? HLSW would still show Nexuiz although it might long be removed. Sure you could check if you find the binary but then there would still be that remaining registry entry. And deleting it again when the game is shutdown would probably not help HLSW at all. Though i try to avoid windows i do not want to dump stuff on other persons computers
Do you really just check for registry settings? It seems nexuiz would be the first game 'without a real' installation program. Maybe it will not be the last. How about looking in some default places for nexuiz.exe like cyan suggested? Its not perfect but at least a start and having HLSW users enter a location for a game is not that hard. I have to do it for XQF for each game i want to use with it.
Well maybe others have different opinions this was just my own personal opinion!!
I still think it would be neat to have a small application for windows users that can download or use a local nexuiz zip file, unpack it and create startmenu entries and that could also be used to create registry entries like you want them. That way the nexuiz zip file can still be system independent and it will allow windows users their usual installation.
