I'm not totally sure why but there seems to be someone playing on servers using the nick 'esteel', he claimed a few times to be a developer of Nexuiz and that a version 2.2.5 will be released in the future.

Actually i do not really care for that guy, he seems to be reasonable to some level but i dislike that fact that he spreads false information about Nexuiz and obviously is into identity theft. So i'd like to release some info about the next Nexuiz version which i also think will spark some interest for the next version :)

The devs currently work on version 2.3 (at least that is the planned version number for now) which will feature a reworked netcode what will make playing much much smoother even on bad connections and can cope better with packet loss. Rendering will get a nice boost (depending on the map and player count 10-270% faster). Furthermore due to some nice improvements the anti-wallhack function that was present in Nexuiz since the beginning can finally be enabled by default so players can feel more save from cheating. Some maps were improved to work better with the anti-wallhack. 2.3 might also bring two completely new maps along with some smaller visual improvements for some effects and general look.. There is also the usual bunch of fixes like some spawn points that make players stuck and unable to move or getting mirror damage when shooting team corpses.

So work is going on to finish the maps, maybe rebalance some guns and fix remaining bugs. Do not belive anything said on servers ;)

Whew!!! I'm glad this was brought up.

That guy keeps using my name. He was impersonating me a couple of times this past week. Then he was impersonating you (esteel). I had an couple of arguments with you, because the "fake you' was saying "so he's using your screen name. It's no big deal. Just get over it". I was like "what?!?!@?" Then later on I found out that he was using your name too. :-) I was suckered.

I also noticed that you didn't play as well. I thought you were acting strangely. I assumed you were heavily drinking or something. Ya know...Germans. :-D

But he was sort of chatting like you do. He mimicked your personality pretty well for a few minutes.

Anyway, I have the guy's IP address from the last time he played. Dunno if that would help. I wrote it down at home (I'm at work right now).

Yea, I remember playing against two Dokujisans (both were kicking my ass) the other night, and then two esteels. I think it was on the same server. Maybe something should be done to, at the very least, stop someone from changing their nick in-game to the same thing as someone else (even just a difference in color).

A long-term idea would be a way to register nick names, and servers would ask an auth server if the nickname is registered. If yes, the player needs to have some sort of "key" on his client to use the nickname, and otherwise gets autorenamed.

The problem is, it can't be completely done in QC. Also, storing that key in a cvar would mean that an imposter could just set up a server and then sniff the key. So I'd prefer something cryptographically stronger, like a HMAC of a message the auth server provides. But then the key can't be stored in a cvar...
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Performance boosts are always good 8) .

What might we expect for weapon balance changes? Gonna buff the Crylink?

all i want to know is if "impulse 13" will work normally again.

as for impostors:
ive seen several people impostoring, including me, but most of the persons i impostor are myself. :P

an option to register the nicks would be great. would also help for clan tags. how about using the forum?

yes impulse 13 not working had the same reason as the broken spawns on bleach.. which are both fixed :)

And i'm playing around with less spread for the crylink primary and more damage for the secondary firemode.

I was about to post and suggest almost exactly those changes...
the only difference being that I think that the spread on the primary for the shotgun should remain as is.
