MIGRATING 2.2.3 SETTINGS TO 2.3?

Postby 003 » Mon May 28, 2007 11:34 pm

This is an issue for me and I'm sure it will bug a lot of other people as well. I can find no easy way to migrate my old settings from 2.2.3 to the 2.3 test 4. I spent a long time getting them just right and a lot of them are cfg-only settings, because they are broken ingame for one reason or another. You guys need to figure out an easy way to transfer all your old settings!

BTW,
I LOVE 2.3, its what nexuiz should have been!! I maintain a very high, stable FPS, one similar to what I would expect on a PC of my calibur. No offense but 2.2.3 and all previous releases run like crap and have huge FPS fluxuations. I love the more realistic physics as well, this is going to rock!!

Why is this an issue? Just copy over the config.cfg from your Nexuiz223/data directory and copy it into your Nexuiz23/data dir. IF you also use other .cfg files you should know about and how to handle them. I'd just advice to start with a fresh config as its the savest way to do.

I do it like this: I have several config files. n.cfg (for my basic settings like binds, mouse and misc settings) n_lx.cfg (just contains my sensitivity setting for linux, well as i no longer use windows i could just scrap the windows setting in n.cfg and get rid of that file but i'm too lazy), n_lo.cfg ('my' low settings) n_hi.cfg ('my' high settings) and n_mi.cfg (misc settings like, autodemo, stuff like showfps). Those files contain all settings i need, i can even kill config.cfg and use those to restore my settings. Quite handy to test stuff ;)

wait you can just copy CFG files?? I thought 2.3 had a lot of things reworked and new things added and so that wouldn't work.

The config.cfg files just saves settings that are marked as savable AND are changed from the default so its worth a try.. BUT if there are any problems i expect people to try it with default settings and not bother me in case the default settings work fine but their old settings not :P :P Well i'm not THAT mean but telling people to start from a clean install is a good way to minimize problems :)
