Nexuiz Updates all(?) would like to see

*** Write down what you would like to see in the next update. I will add it in this post! I will also add some suggestions from other topics. ***

There are still some things I would like to see in the next Nexuiz release and there are for sure some thing YOU would like to see. Thats the reason why i opened this thread. Discuss about the given suggestions and add new suggestions. Thanks for replying!

1.) Ingame Clock: I want to see a ingame Clock all the time at the topright of my screen. This is of course better for timing of Armors/MH/Powerups. Every Gamemode would benefit from that (looking at scores to see an ingame clock just suck!)

2.) Fullbright Skins: I want to be able to ALWAYS have fullbright skins. If someone don´t like them, an option to disable them would be nice. I know it cant work for now, as Nexuiz works Serversight right now .... but it is something which is needed for (nowadays) standart tournament play.

3.) Smaller Explosion Radius: Yeah, this is a huge change. But the maps in Nexuiz are to small to have ultrabig explosions. I know that many love to "shoot to nothing but hit", but it is more annoying as aiming isnt so interesting (which is crazy with the dmg most weapons deal!). Weapons which need a change here are in my eyes Rocketlauncher (More speed, but lower Radius) and Mortar (just lower radius)

***UPDATE*** To fix something at the Mortar which is overpowered, maybe lower the shoot frequency a bit.

4.) No more splash through walls: This is for sure a point which changes alot, too. As in most games, positioning (most time OVER the other player) is a thing, which good players learn fast. But thx to splash through walls position doesnt give you a big advantage .. sometimes it is just an disadvantage.You can mostly only get a good "position" when you Laserjump into the air. Here again .. good aiming isnt needed.

***UPDATE*** It was allready tested to remove the splash through walls and the community doesnt like that BUT some of the replies seem to agree that a dmg reduction from the splash through walls would be o.k. I would like to see more comments about that, as 3 posts doesnt mean to much at all.

5.) READY without maprestart: If both are ready there should be a timer which counts down to 0 and then the game start (without a maprestart). This maprestart and then joining just gives a benefit to the guy with the faster pc.

6.) Spectators: You can´t spectatre 1v1s. Well, i want to be able to spectate 1v1´s. Change that please that spectators can´t join a running 1v1 match . I guess that can be combined with point 5.

7.) Tournament Prices: This game is for free and of course you dont can give out 500$ prices.If the community grows, sponsors will come. But you can start with small ones, maybe a unique forum avatar or make an Interview with the winner. Stuff like that.

8.) Changes in Tournament: "You choose 1 map and the other choose 1. How many frags you win with does not matter! It is the map wins that matter; best-of-three. So if you won 1 and the other won 1 you must both agree on a third map. If that is a draw choose a fourth map and so on".
Why dont you handle it that way, that the player who made the most frags can decide which 3rd map will be played. Of course you could change the rules so far, that he can´t choose a map allready played. I dont think that this sytem is fair if the maps results are somethig like 40:5 and 22:23.

9.) Trickjumpmap: Yeah, would be cool. Maybe some of you know a map like Defrag for Quake3 (you have to accomplish some tasks and theres just a timer that you can look up the time you needed). Its good for improving the movement and still fun to compete with other players, getting the best time.

10.) All can watch tournaments: I am sure that most of you know software like WaaaghTV or GTV. Its a Proxy for one Spectator, on which a lot of clients can join in (so they see, what this spectator is watching). This saves tons of serverslots/bandwith and the clients can only communicate with other "NexTV" Users, which doesnt irritate the players. Some people (like me) enjoy watching CTF/TDM/1v1 Games live.

11.) Demo Browser: Right now i Record Demos into Folders which show me the Date. I do this to not overload my Demofolder with tons of demos. If i could browse into folders with the "watch demo" option, it would be nice.

12.)Disconnect Time: If someone disconnected from his provider, it takes way to much time since he timed out from the server. Make it like 30 seconds or 1 minute please.

13.)Powerup Spawntime: Powerups have to spawn after a time (30 seconds) and should not be there from start on.

14.)Spawnsystem: Change the spawnsystem to make spawnfrags a bit harder. Startspawns for a good mapbalance from start on (especially for 1v1) would be nice, that both have the same chance (or nearly same) from start on..

Plz, not no. Most nexuiz maps are to dark, but thats a problem with the maps and teh maps should be fixed. Just as you use teh geometry of a map to you (dis)advantage, so should you be able to use the light/dark of it.

Yeh, lets make yet another quake3 clone! Seriosly, if you think aming in nexuiz is pointless you havent played with any remotely good aming ppl. really.

Was tried, theres is a cvar for tunrning it off, but most want it on, so its on. Personaly i dont care to mutch, i use mainly non radius weapons. The cvar that controls this is "g_throughfloor"

Yeh, would be nice. The first few seconds are, atm, very valuable. this often screws up teamplay and balance since you just join the auto team and go for the quad/nex/rl.

All above has nothing or little to do with nexuiz itself, is stuff you need to talk abt in the ladder subforum. Well the trickjump maps would be cool, make one or some design for one and soneone else may do one (i never done one so i would not know here to start)

Adding servername to autodemos would be nice too. The menu is preddy mutch a disaster area IMO. worst part of nexuiz by far.

I dont want ot argue against your point, as everyone has his own oppinion. But i allready played a lot of the good aiming people in nexuiz, just to clear that :wink:

well I can see why you say no splash damage through walls. In a map (forgot which one), there's a very thin platform, and when someone is on top of it I usually aim at the spot right below their feet, which is a bit cheap I suppose.

Weapon radius I can see your point. I really think the nex should be the only gun that guarantees a one shot kill. The RL at this point is way too powerfull, and you don't even have to hit the target to kill them, you aim in their general direction and hit mouse2. it's impossible to dodge fast enough, and it's just too powerful. The nex would stay in balance because it is harder to aim, does not completely kill them, and takes more skill.

nexTV is a good idea, they have that in numerous other games. I think we should leave that job to the community though, then maybe merge it into the trunk in the next version.

I agree on many points. However, I do think that damage through floor is a feature of Nexuiz which is one of the points that makes it unique ... so this will not be changed, alrough it easily could be done by using the cvar. Clientside-adjustable skins/models (e.g. fullbright models) is an important thing too and I'm quite sure the programmers will take care of that in Nexuiz v3.0!

About the ingame-clock: Use one of the new binaries (they are beta of course, but they contain the clock): http://141.2.16.3:7780/nex/nexuizengineonly20070704.zip - but be warned, it could have a worse FPS performance again (well for me basically every build that I don't test and help to find the bugs have about 0.5x the FPS of the stable release build^^, that's nothing new to me anymore).

Totaly true. I always start moving 0.5~1 second after the other player.

normally the playermodels are fullbrighted or did you mean fullbrighted coloured?

most of the maps are big and some are open too so a huge explosion radius makes sense

I talk with Burning some time ago about something like this and im working on a trickjump map atm but i have no idea what i can add there and no idea abou the textures

or something like challangeTV at quakeworlds where you can load the demos or look some demos via stream

- Rockets

Something needs to change. It's too powerful, and this is the weapon that I utilize the best. I would say increase the speed slightly and reduce the power slightly to be more like a mortar.


- Mortar

This actually is too powerful too...though nobody knows that except for the advanced players. It's too powerful mainly because of the refire rate. I say decrease the refire rate a little and that would balance it out. It refires so quickly that can hit people multiple times before they even hit the ground.


- Damager through walls

I'm on the fence with this one. On one hand, I think it's a cheap shot and it doesn't really make sense. On the other hand, it does make Nexuiz unique. I would like to know if it's possible to reduce the amount of damage given through walls. That would make the "through walls" damage a little more reasonable.


- Spectators on 1v1

I TOTALLY agree with this one. I would also love to be a spectator watching a match live. Ideally, the spectators would be able to converse with each other, but the players would not see the conversation, so they don't get distracted.

MORE speed? the reason it got powerfull (again) is the newoninan missile physics in 2.3. if you still crave q3 rl's use the electro. Before the high air control and gennerally swifter movement the rl pwnd more then it does now. i dont see a problem with that, its a big, big gun. usualy only one or two per map. perhaps some more ammo drain and a bit of longrange inaccuracy tho.

I dont see teh cheap-ness in dmg-through solids. Sure before you know it its a wtf moment, but after that its a skill both to use it right abd to avoid gettin hit by it. Some reduction in the damage when it travels though a solid could perhaps be an agreeable compromize (easy to do)?
