Nexuiz Main theme [music]

Where could I obtain the the MIDI file to Track001, also known as Nexuiz menu music and Starship ambient music; I believe it fails to capture the feel and kick of a fast-paced shooter such as Nexuiz, and therefore I plan to recompose it [and yes, I do have the qualifications]

All I have to say is thank you.

The first place I'd look is in the svn...

Most of the music in the game is made by Gerd "eliysis" Raudenbusch (excuse the spelling) and iirc he/she uses Impulse Tracker. A midi file is thus not available, but an IT file might be. Its possible that the menu music is one of the few tracks not by Elysis, in that case i dont know :)

I guess someone is going to start the "source of binary content discussion again, but as I've earlier explained (over and over again), GPL cannot be directly applied to content, if it is binary data has to be considered its own source or the use of GPL is worthless, thus it might be very possible that the original creation files are lost, not available, or totally useless for anyone missing some spesific hardware/software

actually, IMHO binary files ARE its own source, simply because they are not the result of some automated process. Same goes for ASCII text files, of course. Nobody can request the "source" to one, even though one COULD consider a manuscript that - and of course, if the manuscript would be just sent as a copy, it would have a "source" again, so in the end you could request the REAL manuscript. So you see, it would get riddikulus when trying to actually do that... so one has to consider the binary file its own source, or one would get nowhere.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Nice to know someone agrees with me :) I still bet someone will start ranting about midi files has to be available for music cause the midi files are the musicis "source"..

I would not accept MIDIs as source anyway...

source is the FULL score of the music. That contains much more information than MIDI can encode... unfortunately, it can't be "compiled" to a music file in some straightforward way, so it doesn't qualify either... so again, there is no source, or in other words, the binary IS the only possible source.

It seems like a single clause in the GNU GPL v2 has caused bickering... without any actual progress.

Track001 is not composed by elysis, thus I am dumbfounded at who to contact, and I do not need the full source as per say, but I request at least a reference of sorts; the problem comes from the combination of both previously stated facts, there is absolutely no trace of a reference, and no contact information for the true composer.

So what contact information does anyone, including Alientrap, Urmel, kojn/kojak, Kozak[6], & whoever, have? If I don't receive any merit of detail, I'll have to reverse engineer a source from the Hertz of the music... :|

I'm glad you asked :P .

The Nexuiz menu music is called "Digital Pursuit", by Brian Callahan/Parapraxis, whose website is:

http://www.geocities.com/slefd1m/

You can email him at slefd1m AT yahoo.com.
