It's not actually that realistic, it's over the top. Brickwork in real life does not have a 50mm deep groove between the bricks. You also notice far worse aliasing with that high a bump offset and if you were to enable AA, it would hence run slower.
After setting r_shadow_bumpscale_bumpmap 32, you have to do a vid_restart for it to take effect. Also, if you dont define a value like you did the second time, it just tells you what it is set to, and what the default is (4).
Nexuiz has a lot of special effects, but nobody uses them because it is too taxing on most people's computer. I think that 2.4 should focus on optimizing the code so that people won't be afraid of turning on all of the effects.
Sounds easy, but we have nobody who can do that (it actually IS quite fast, it's just that it contains effects that nobody needs and that gain nothing). Any volunteers?
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again
You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
I actually played on ultimate quality today on RBI ctf server. Went actually really nice, it is playable. But I think it was that map, as when I tried mike I had between 10-100 fps depending what area I was at.
