[idea] Solutions for those lamers

Postby :) » Tue Sep 04, 2007 1:44 pm

Problem: Trolls in Nexuiz servers are hard to stop unless one is using rcon, and it's unreasonable for an admin to always be on this.
Votemasters can kick, but kicking is futile.
Even more futile is voting to kick by slot. Nobody will vote for "kick # 6" if it doesn't make sense, and it may not be explainable if the troll is a spammer.

Possible Solutions: enable votemasters to perform muting and temporary kickbans
or create a new level of administrator, a First Mate or Lieutenant sort of thing :) where this person has limited privileges which are greater than those of a votemaster which would allow them to keep the server enjoyable for the players.
or allow voting for temporary kickbans
As for voting, I would also suggest translating slot numbers into player names in the voting prompt, something like *Dave has called a vote to kick Dave (# 6).

I wish there was a way of creating users that can be authenticated through mysql or sql lite or something like that. Then there could be an admin panel where you can kick/ban people.

Maybe this is already implemented, but I think it would be nice to automatically kick people who spam with identical custom messages.

Is the kickbanning limited to votemasters who log in? (As opposed to elected votemasters)
If not, it should be a time-limited ban to prevent hijacking.

No, votemaster can do anything regular voters can do, nothing more or less.

If not, it should be a time-limited ban to prevent hijacking.

I hope to get the kickban feature implemented soon as possible. For now, I've enabled some better logging and manual /24 bans with iptables.

Does net_banlist allow wildcards?

No, but according to the integrated help it supports ip ranges in the form a.b.c.d/nn or a.b.c.d/e.f.g.h
