Development Tools?

Postby blacksnack » Wed Sep 19, 2007 6:41 am

What tools would be used for editing the source code in Mac OS X or Windows XP? Can this be done in Visual C++ or is there a better tool? Any advice on getting started would be greatly appreciated, I want to try to develop a new weapon or something while learning to code at the same time, but I'm a bit lost as to where I should start.

ps Is it necessary to get the svn root folder or is it ok to use the source that comes with the game?

thanks,

snacks

svn is experemental code, so I'd use the source that was packaged for the game

as for editing it, you can use anything you want that is a plain text editor.

On the other hand, svn often contains fixes after the release. IMHO you should use the svn 2.0 branch, NOT the trunk. That's stable and only gets tested features.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
