Galt just switched to svn on his server so a score of new features have become activated in my client. I *love* the nex particle effect, it's brilliant. The new models are always nice to have, I hope more keep coming. But I hate how overdone the lighting is for the laser and machinegun. These weapons conceptually do not fire particular powerful bullets, and should not spam the screen with so much gaudy eyecandy. The gunflare for the machinegun is fine, but the impact of every single bullet should not cause a lighting event of any kind. Laser lighting is okay, but its radius needs to be significantly reduced to the minuscule level it had before. Everything else just overstates the power of both weapons in a visually misleading and obtrusive way.

I like the faint smoke trails for the mortar - was that always there or is that new?

Basically, when I'm looking at the map in spectator mode from above, I shouldn't be assaulted with brilliant color circles all over my screen when the players themselves are just the size of ants. Save the effects for when you really need it - rocket and nex, where it the potency of the weapon deserves highlighting.
