Yup. Shotgun's my favorite too.
But since I can't make anything in 3D, these can only give an impulse for what I was thinking has to be Nexuiz.

When designing "nexuizy" shotguns, just keep thinking "+1,000,000 stick of boom"

The new shotgun is definitely an improvement. There is a nice look and conistency to DocPyton's models, that has really improved the overall look of the game.

Weapon models are one of the most important visual aspects of a game, as they are constantly being viewed. Good or bad weapon models can make or break a game visually. For all of the various engine improvements over the years Nexuiz has received, the most signifigant visual improvement in the game has been the newer weapon models. Doc has a great, and consistent style, and i'd love to see him work on some others as well(crylink, laser, hagar, etc). Those aren't necessarily bad models, but they aren't on the level of Doc's new ones.

Need I point out the irony of this opinion?

No, not that opinion specifically, but in an overall sense, anything I say can regarded as fact for your future reference.

I'd have to say one of the biggest oversights I see in the industry today is the largely unexplored world of user created content. Whether it be closed proprietary software where the company wants you to buy 'premium themes' or an open source project where a single person's view can limit creative concepts when their ideas don't match up with the group, I believe the community at large is negatively affected.

While I suppose the line between a game and a platform begins to blur, it is my believe that an open-source game should utilize it's community, not kick them in the face (so to speak).

Ninja, it seems to me you're arguing for the sake of making it look like you're not wrong.

first: what all videogame, movie, and book creators strive for, is immersion. immersion means you get sucked into the fictional universe they have created, you enjoy it as if you were there. in order to do this, it is required that you suspend your disbelief. this is where coherence becomes important. you personally might love to play call of duty as mickey mouse, you'd have a blast. but if you're in an intense firefight with your buddies, desperately trying to take hold of a control point (or w/e CoD does) and you see mickey mouse driving a panzer laden with nazi propaganda, regardless of how hilarious you might find it, it takes you out of the experience. it's not only disappointing that you lose the tone the game had, but it's distracting. and being distracted during a first person shooter is the last thing you want.

nexuiz has a theme established. when a game has a theme established, you have two options for new weapons. either make sure new weapons are cohesive with the theme, or request that the entire theme be changed. the first is the easiest. the latter will take a huge amount of work and be met with widespread resistance. this leads me to my second point.

this is the beauty of open source. if you don't like it, fork.

I couldn't agree more. I like the new styles Morphed went with.

Hell yeah!

I think it would be cool to see a shotgun similar to this in Nexuiz, but with a wheel clip like those found on street sweepers (slang term for a type of automatic shotgun), no scope, and a few places with your characters colors on them.
I have left this website with the rest of the GPL Nexuiz community. You can find us at Xonotic.org

I like the model of the shotgun in the latest version really, though of course it can always be better. I agree it looks like a wand though, which is why I believe the model should only be resized and made larger in 1st person mode and probably the model players are holding too. Same for the rocket launcher... the model is too small for a RL but I like it otherwise. I think the shotgun's worst problem is the firing sound, which isn't loud and sharp enough.

Indeed! Does anyone here own a shotgun and suitable recording equipment? I think a new sound based on a real recording would yield superior results to a purely synthetic sound.
