Feature request system.

Postby Xeno » Wed May 21, 2008 4:51 pm

Too many people show up and post requests in their very first post. Usually these things have been addressed before and we just end up with unintentional spam because people either don't look around the forum first or they overestimate their own "insights".

I think it's time to create a centralized request system. I don't know how much work that would be, but I think it might be worth it. The dev wiki could use an update too since the todo lists etc seem to be about a year old now and the layer of dust on it rivals that of a fat man's late night informercial exercise equipment.

Butt approves on this.

My first request: Weapon Priority Option
Utopic request: Euphoria Physics Engine :P

Yup. And this came from one "first post request". I marked the stuff in bold, that I consider most important:
Ubuntoz wrote:I'm not an expert but i have some suggestions for make more competitive nexuiz or simply to improve it

-update textures and maps if it possibile(for example:in RUINER the texture and the curved surfaces arve very nice)
-change the animation of player's walk
-add a column in the multiplayer form that show the type of the match
-change the loading screen(no console output but maybe a progress bar)
-update the models of armor and health
-add new musics more fast
-some maps have a not significant name
-a windows installer

*sigh*

This idea has been suggested before.

j/k :P

The closest thing we have right now seems to be this...
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_i ... tid=563410

But almost nobody knows about it and I don't even know if it's checked by the developers.

Also worth noting, some of the suggestions made by Ubuntoz are not ones that would necessarily be directed at the developers. Some are map suggestions which would be aimed at mappers. Of course, an average user might not realize that, but still.

I think the sourceforge feature request system is intended for developer-specific requests. I think Nexuiz could use a more generic system, and one that ties in with the forum for futhre discussion.

With the great new announer voices in v2.4.2 can we have some subtitles. Idealy offer some control of which voices/subtitles are used in game. Also offer a multilingual version of the subtitles, even translate the announcer into other languages.

I made a russian translation for Torus announcer sounds. No need in translating the countdowns, since everybody can read those.

If somebody could get his hands on a cyrillic ingame font, it wouldn't be too hard to implement this stuff.
Btw, "Narrowly averted!"... Does that mean, that you nearly turned over the match or that you actually won it with a very close score? For the translation has to be different in this case.

Imo IF there could be multilingual announcer voices, they should be delivered as separate addons. Don't bloat package file size unnecessarily. Nevertheless, typo wouldn't take too much space, right?

Woops... I actually learned a little typography basics during my last job. So I could make this myself. Does anybody know, where to find the Nexuiz ingame fonts? And are there any vector based graphics of these at all? There have to be font files somewhere...

Font capabilities are limited as I understand it.

Female announcer for important events

Postby Lee_Stricklin » Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:48 pm

Not sure if anybody requested it or not, but I think it would be cool to have either a DOA 4 or Unreal Championship 2 style female voice for flag captures and other important events like that. The standard male announcer is in my opinion more suited for pointing out killing sprees (like triple kills) and HOLYSHIT! moments.
