An alternative to teh ulgy fullbrightskins.

Hey !
I got an idea (yeepee) :
Why you don't oblige ppl having a skin with 2 different colors. Like blue and red for me, I think all can regognise me. (morever with the ugliest skin in this game : Wolf =) ).
I find fullbrightskins not very nice, we didnt see what part of teh corpse we shootin.
Cadaver seems to be playin guys.
AND that's teh original skin of Greeny !!!
I talk principaly for teh ladders.
But true that in DM some ppl LOVE fullbright (no, I don't look into PRAYER direction) and always vote them ON.
When you play DM on farewell with 16 strange yellow things (ROBOTS ?), thats annoying.
All grey skins in greys map (ALL ?) sux too.
Maybe obliged ppl havin 2 colors is a good issue.

Fact, there are some too many camouflage colors since 2.4 and there are many combinations to make one's own playermodel hardly visible. That's the reason why I generally vote for fullbright players in ladder matches and minstagib servers. The downside is: you cannot recognize the players by their model and color anymore. However the smaller problem compared to almost invisible opponents. Also very usable is GreEn's color palette chooser, but only a few FFA servers have fullbrights enabled. And I think it's not compatible with all colors since 2.4 (correct me please if I'm wrong).

I like cuizi's idea about multicolored fullbrights and appreciate his suggestion. My suggestion would be more radical however, server admins should only be able to choose between fully camouflaged or _really_ fullbright, screaming colors.

Thanks UrmL mon copain !
I would add model chooser with fullbrightskin, why Only one ?
That's hard to do a pink fullbrightwolf (I'd LOVE that) ?

WHAT?!?

The new colors are specifically made to provide LESS camouflage. You're the first to complain in THAT direction. 2.4 generally has brighter and stronger colors, thus, harder to hide with them.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

that's just ridiculous divverent. You must be kiddin

Surely you are right about some colors, but surely not with the several grey tones. I'm gonna post some screenies maybe, I'll try to remember that ;)

Well, I cannot text every detail here as this would produce too much text, but in short I can say this:

the colored fullbright skins (the ones you vote for) are only that bright and well visible, because it has a modified shirt-texture which gets colored with the color of the shirt of the player. when voting for sv_defaultplayer_fbskin_red, the shirt and pants color of all active players is overwritten with red, a default model is chosen on the server, and the skin which has this shirt-texture will be selected. However, the colors (like red/blue/orange/green) are only THAT visible, because this shirt-texture is used, and because this shirt texture is having white areas. These textures work similar to an alpha map, where the lighter a pixel is, the more of the shirt-color of the player is visible. The shirt-texture of the colored fullbright skin has the areas set to a very bright value, thats why the colors are visible so well

However, the problem is: there is no pants texture file for this skin, which means that it will simply take ONLY the shirt color of the player, the pants color won't have any effect at all.

Now, the problem with all the other models and their skins (e.g. "wolf") is that their shirt and pants textures mostly have darker gray areas, the areas are not white. This means that even if you make the colors in the color palette very bright (using my colorchooser, which, unfortunately, is only designed for the 4 colors I mentioned above), due to the darker areas in the texture files, you won't see that much of the color, at least not 100% of it.

Well, I had to keep some colors as is, these "Quake colors" may be your problem. They are very grey-, brown- and greenish. Couldn't replace all colors at once... the new colors were supposed to be similar to the old ones, so it is a nice transition.
