blender smd import script needed

Postby zuriastrad » Sat Jul 12, 2008 9:07 pm

i've been playing around with character modelling and animation, but i've hit a problem. i'd like to use the existing animations of a nexuiz character to animate some models that i make, but i'm unable to do this because i cannot import the smd files into blender.

i've done a lot of searching and every smd import script i've found so far doesn't work with recent versions of blender. this is a fairly major problem for an open source game when it's models can't be edited with the major open source 3d modelling package. i suppose i could dig up an ancient version of blender and work with that, but losing all the modern features that i am now used to would be a huge drag.

i've added a comment to this thread on the blender forum and i'm hoping that something will come of it, but if it doesn't are there any python users here who could take a look at it?
