My thanks to the "Gods of Nexuiz" for coming out to confirm this matter is at a close.

I would NEVER want to put this game-project in jeopardy - and in fact - have stated this several times on the forums here on AlienTrap - and over at Nexuiz-Ninjaz.

If any other of my sounds are in question, please send me a PM with your concerns and I will do my best to straighten out any issues.

I have NO problem re-creating my sounds and even re-inventing new ones, ...this is NOT an unwanted 'chore' for me. Sound design is my passion and has been since 1998 when I first started working on sounds for video-games.

Once again, i'm DEDICATED to making high-quality sounds for this project. It's my favourite hobby.

The case of the "hit" sound is solved now, too. It actually has historical reasons regarding the origin of CS.

Also note how Tenshihan's hit sound source is much higher quality than the one included with CS:S - and no filter can "reinvent" the high frequency detail that got lost when downsampling, which actually IS THERE and you CAN SEE IT if you use a decent wave editor like Audacity in the spectral view.

A claim that Tenshihan may have used Sound Generals samples as source of the hit sound, when he was ACTIVELY in the CS/HL modding scene in the past, would be ridiculous. Why would he, among all the sounds Sound Generals have, take exactly the one that was (supposedly) also used for CS? Finding that one sound would take longer than redoing it on his own, or simply ripping it from CS, and if it's just a hit sound, nobody would notice the quality difference anyway (except for in a wave editor).

However, the sound will be redone anyway, to remove any doubt.

hagexp, however, looks ABSOLUTELY clean to me, no matter how I try to analyze it. Note that the three sounds are the same at different speeds, but elite_fire.wav is completely different.

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

That's ok -z-, I don't require one now. But thanks for the sentiment.

I just hope that certain people here have learned that if you want something - to ask nicely first without passing unwarranted mis-judgement, filled with negligent accusation. It doesn't serve any good to do so, and certainly doesn't help the Nexuiz project by causing dissension.

Actually, leileilol should really publicly apologize not just to us, but also to TraK, simply to not lose his credibility (i.e. for his own sake). And TraK should forward his email from cgtextures to us and to leileilol.

Because, both cases were massive misaccusations by leileilol and resulted in escalation.

Also, leileilol should now have seen a more conclusive way to compare sounds, to do his work better in the future. I suggest leileilol to try out spectral analysis to compare re-encoded, or even filtered, sounds... he'll see that the spectral picture won't change much under any filtering or encoding. I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what the professionals do.

But the worst mistake leileilol does is his tone. Before publicly accusing, one should PM the author, and maybe the project leaders too. If he feels he must do it publicly, please do it in a calm tone, to not lose credibility even more.

I'm not reading all this thread, I have not time to do it, so I just say that if the sound of the explosion of the Rocket Launcher will be in Nexuiz 2.5 the same present in green's server, that sounds very distorted to me (and some other ppl), I have no option but replace the sound with the old one.

I've read that it should depend from 5.1 audio, that I use, but sry I'm not changing audio settings every time I play Nexuiz to fix this sound.

The sound is fine to me, and if it gets official, replacing it is nothing else than cheating.

The best you can do is to try opening the current sound in a sound editor, edit it so it is fine for you, and tell Tenshihan what you did.

No, not this way. The problem is that if you use 5.1 channel sound for film watching, you can't use same setup for gaming with HEADPHONES. Headphones have stereo input therefore you need to downmix from 5.1 to 2. Depending on the OS you use, there are several ways.

Well... I've tried all audio settings and it's not depending on 5.1 (indeed it's strange that only one sound have problems, the others not). I guess (as I said in a previous post) that the problem is the original recording.

In an audio editor the sound is even a bit lower than the old one, so this is not the problem and nothing I can do to make it better, a part lowering the high frequencies, but in this way the clipping is only soften and not removed.

The old sound doesn't have so much high frequency, whereas the new sound is better from this point of view.

This is the sound as I ear it:

If I ear in the same way of u and it's good for u, well, for me it's not good.
