Tis a sad day for Nexuiz to see you go. It is true that you hear more subtleties in sound than most and a shame many cannot respect your decisions. A first impression doesn't trump your 30+ years of experience but some players like to think their opinions are of higher value without considering your time spent on the sounds first.

The sounds are certainly 'fuller' as you said. I know I'm only picking up on a small level of nuances compared to your trained ears but every time I play, I see and hear more.

I find it insulting that players don't give your sounds more time and instead repackage old sounds that aren't nearly as detailed. "It sounds weird" they might say, when in truth, you've considered reality. The physics of the game, the weapon, the sound waves and the emotions they provoke.

There is a whole 'nother angle I can elaborate on here about lacking respect for your sounds but I'll bite my tounge as you know why.

Fact of the matter is, you spend and endless amount of time perfecting the sounds and matching them up with the visuals to make the game feel more real. You redid nearly every sound in the game, creating new ones at request. I don't believe Nexuiz will ever see talent like yours again.

I hope to continue working with you in private and on other projects but I understand why you feel like you must cut ties with official Nexuiz development. A hiatus is needed for you Michael. Find yourself in nature, it is summer. Let life guide you to a new meditation and refresh your tired soul.

I would like to throw in my thanks and best wishes to Tenshinan as well.

Your sound effects make Nexuiz feel real and solid. You can even tell how to use each weapon simply by the sound it makes, which makes them all the more satisfying because now don't just know that you've killed you opponent, you know how he was obliterated.

These being combined with morphed's weapon models, I have found myself using more and getting better with weapons I previously had tended to neglect, simply because they feel so awesome to use and each has so much more of its own 'flavor'.

This new audio also raises a major aspect of the game's content so much higher, that I feel it can inspire folks to pick up work on the other areas that have not seen the same kind of advancement and make them better.

I would like to have any clue about what happened here ... I thought the rage about licensing was a thing of the past

Anyway, thanks for everything Tenshinhan, my best wishes to you

From the developer notes:

Announcer sounds = now have proper labels, please encode them to work where needed.

Can't do that, as they would then not play at all when playing on servers using the old names. But I did some announcing changes so the new files can be used:

- yoda is now a copy of awesome
- yoda is played for "awesome" for energy weapons
- awesome is played for "awesome" for rifle
- impressive is played for two consecutive minstanex hits (it was always meant to be "impressive", like in Q3A)
- the now unused amazing is played for a porto telefrag within 1 second of portal creation

Hagar should use the grenade-bounce sounds for its secondary fire mode. (no need to make an additional sound, just code it to use those sounds please.) Otherwise we are making duplicate files for no reason, taking up precious space. We should do the same with any weapons that are using similar sounds.

Same reason.

Crylink-Fire is STILL is using a YELLOW flash, ...I thought this was fixed in a recent SVN version, but I see its back in 2.5, ...not cool, it doesnt match the actual plasma-fire and therefore looks like crap, ..please someone FIX this!!! A nice brilliant UV flash of light should accompany it. (405nm in wavelength)

I cannot see the bug, maybe my fps are too low, but I found soemthing in effectinfo that MIGHT fix it.

The change to the menu sound track is rejected for now as the track "creation" is still in a legal grey zone which needs resolving (when asked via PM, you apparently refused to give out source of the track). Plus, I like blkrbt's track more for Nexuiz.

Nexuiz Havoc, however, having a different menu theme also, seems quite nice with "creation", and I don't think anyone will be offended if we have to remove the track for legal reasons later.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Thanks for all the new sounds Tenshihan :).

And I am sorry, but where did he say he would stop contributing things? I see people being sorry that he leaves, but I don't see the "leave-message".

IMO the latest mortar and hagar sounds sound really weird, like they were converted to low quality mp3 first and then had some treble added to them. Maybe I just got so used to the sounds before this change, and have a hard time getting used to this small change :D

Damn it's sad to see you leave Tenshihan. I understood you are quite busy, but I hope you won't disappear completely from this community :(
Thank you for the great contribution you have made, it was a very important thing for Nexuiz to finally get new, updated sounds by a talented person like you. The sounds are after all, a very big part of what makes a game what it is.

The announcer sounds you recently made are btw, amazing. ;)
