Idea: Change the official gameplay video.

Postby CanadianLinux » Fri Oct 10, 2008 11:19 pm

I really like the idea of having a demo right on the homepage so people can see the general idea of what Nexuiz is about. I just feel that the demo video should show off Nexuiz better than it currently does.

Real life example: I told a friend at work about Nexuiz and how it is the primary FPS that I am playing, he said he would check it out. He went home opened Nexuiz.com and the first thing he did was watch the demo on the homepage. The next day I asked him if he played it and he said "nah I watched the video, didn't look like anything special to me". He did comment on how well the main page was designed though. The following weekend during the intermission of hockey night in Canada, I opened Nexuiz and started playing. He came over and said "That looks frickin awesome". As he watched me bunny-hop, speed cap the flag, laser off walls to gain speed...etc... he asked me if he could try it out. As the intermission ended he no longer had interest in the Hockey game. He says "I wish the demo on the Nexuiz site showed me what the game was really about"

First impressions are important. Just a suggestion to have a more appealing video on the homepage to show off the beauty and finesse of Nexuiz rather than just the purty graphics it produces. Sorry if this post shouldn't be in the Development section.

Actually it's more the question of, "who wants to make a new video?"

I couldn't agree more, I'd like a more intense video as well.

We had a few people say they were going to... but no one followed through.

This is also why I refer people to the collection of clips in kyoman.

Asking for contributions from players will help you achieve this goal faster, stronger and build the sense of community here in the forums. Taking charge of such a project would also be admirable and appreciated by your fellow Nexuizians.

Taking the initiative I am asking all Nexuiz players to help as a group to achieve this. I may not be known by all members of the community, I have been playing for about a year at various North American servers. You can always find me on IRC. This will benefit all of us by showing brand new players what we can do with Nexuiz.

I suggest we have clips of various "aspects" of the game. Including trick jumps, CTF Captures and anything else you think would impress any gamer.

I still have the .dem files of all records on the race server. These may show some tricks too, maybe a short clip can be taken from some of them.

You find them on http://emptyset.endoftheinternet.org/~r ... speedruns/
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Well, I'm good at hyperactive editing.
This was my first try on this kind of stuff, so I can do a lot better nowadays if it comes to promotion. Like my remixed Mega Man 2 intro.

FOTY can't be the one. For the simple reason that this game has to be appealing to as many people as possibly. So showing only "hardcore" super cool stuff that only the experienced players can do, can throw off newbies. They might think it's too intense and that they wouldn't stand a chance and die all the time.
I didn't like that aspect of Quake 3 Arena too much before and I was a newbie and no way to beat those crazy guys who hits everything every time.

hardcore stuff done by hardcores looks easy and natural :) , keep in mind that only purpose of this video is to make people install the game, after that they can love it or hate it but video did its job, game is on hdd and ready to play :)

but that dont mean you should only show tripple mid-air mortars where you both are falling into the void ;) some balance need to be made, and dont show too much nexgun shots, they are rather boring to watch after while, quick turn, *click* and action is over ;P, and for gods sake dont show facing worlds in this movie, its sniper map made for fun and it looks bad :P
