That would be great.

However if a Mac needed buying I am more than willing to contribute. If only it were to keep support for my bro sYm[PB]MAC and all the others out there that I don't even know are using Macs. Let's see how this works out with lixi's offer first though :]

I'm currently also listening to some other songs, you are really good. :) Are some of your songs under the GPL license or something? I'm asking cause I've been thinking of making a Nexuiz movie including the Meltdown song (if it is ok with you that is). I wanted to get a hold of the author of that song before I did anything, to ask permission. :)

Thx for your kind words mate :) Yh Meldown is pretty full on, very hardcore indeed. Tbh when I done it I was really unsure wether it would appeal to the nex community, it was a kinda an experiment. Yet I have had so much feedback from it. If you want to use it in your vid I have no problem with that, all my songs are free to use except "The Need for Change" . Maybe just ask Fruitie if he doesnt mind you using it. I did do i for his map.

Might have to remix it now or roll out another Hardcore banger lol

If you want to add my irc room to favs an come chat to me about anything thats cool :) and any1 else for that matter...its.... #Nexuiz.independent on quakenet ofcourse :D

You could as well put a link to your songs, which (if) you release them under GPL. In that case they could be included into main release or official expansion packs if main one gets too huge. Same should go for all other sound designers, modelers, texture makers, mappers, etc... In conclusion, if you have content and think that it might fit Nexuiz to be included officially, you need to license it under GPL or compatible license and state it somewhere.
The best way would be some thread where all this content could be collected and various expansion packs could be created for various other people needs (map making, modelling, texturing, sound mixing, etc.... )

Yes, yes, I know that some of you might think that GPL sucks cause it allows commercial distribution and there is no attribution, but there are some advantages - e.g. this license allows nexuiz be sold on game magazines dvds and attract more players. And anyway, license can't be changed into 4-clause BSD (similar to gpl+attribution clause) cause there isn't any content replacement.

torus wrote:Whoa, whoa. The answer is very simple: Either someone donates their Mac to the cause, or we pool money to buy one.

Some questions:

- Are there any system requirements for the Mac? Could it be an old one (one can buy a used Mac for quite cheap, this might be an option.)

- Can the Mac be anywhere? Or would it be better to somehow get it to your location?

I think there are enough Mac players for either donation or purchasing to be viable options. The Mac doesn't need to be new, just functional. The old one was a Mac Mini, right? So it just shouldn't be older than that one.

Preferably, the Mac is at a location with somewhat 24/7 power and net access. It can sure be some cable modem or DSL line, it just has to be on 24/7 and reachable via ssh.

And performance of the Mac - no requirements. OS X 10.4 or higher, and Xcode have to run on it, that's all. It can be either Intel or PPC, and a G3 suffices for 10.4.

Hello divVerent, have you considered running ads on the forum ?

I mean I don't like ads at all, but I still think this could be an option for creating an extra source of money for the project

In today's internet, ads are worth about nothing. Most people popup blockers, and still a great majority uses adblock. Maybe 5% would actually SEE the ads... but click on them? Not many.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Please let us know if things don't work out with Lixi's Mac and we'll get another solution in place. We don't want to lose Mac support.

I would be willing to donate some money toward a Mac for the developers too.

A quick check on ebay shows there are plenty of systems available for $200 US or less, so this really won't be a long term issue.
So much to do, so little time to do it

could we change the wording from "discontinued" to "put on ice and buried deep deep underground for no one to find for a long long yet not infinite time"?
after all, I'm guessing that should there ever be a mac accessible for the builds, the mac version will be continued again?
I'd be up for a donation, but I don't have much...
