showtopspeed patch

Postby terencehill » Thu Jan 22, 2009 8:29 pm

I've made a small patch to show the top speed reached. It will stay until a higher speed is reached or for max 3 seconds if the current speed is lower than the top speed.
I hope you like it :)

How to show the top speed: showtopspeed 1

PS: maybe the writing "top speed:" should be removed coz it covers some weapons icons

I think these elements just need to be rethought position and style wise. The font is dated and top speed is not the only one to layover the rest of the HUD.

But any cool patch 8)

Scoreboard sorting looks broken there... even score and it shows the player with less frags on top lol.

That's because it only supports two sorting keys - primary and secondary - and because in DM, the rules are set up to sort by frags only (otherwise, the kills column would be cyan).

However, when one would set up the kills as secondary sorting key, it would also mean that the kills decide when frags are equal - and overtime would not be entered.

That's not a bug.

The yellow column is always the primary sorting key, and the one fraglimit applies to.

The cyan column, if any, is the secondary sorting key, and used for deciding when the primary score is equal.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Well, but why is the score column the primary (as it is yellow)? I'm assuming that terencehill did play DM on that server, so shouldn't the frags be the real sorting (primary) ?

score IS "frags".

In DM, score (in Quake: frags) is calculated as kills - suicides.

The "kills" column however does not subtract 1 after a suicide.

I'm using from some days timestamps:

timestamps "1"
timeformat "^0[%H:%M.%S]^7"

I was looking at the code if I can remove the timestamps from messages on the top displayed for 2-3 seconds (centerprint), I guess that they are useless.

Back to the topic: just yesterday francotirador asked me if I could reach 100kmh no weapons in the low ground of silvercity, in a SVN server (planetnexuiz server) with new phisic, and this showtopspeed has been very useful to easily see the top speed.

Only 93kmh btw :(
