No no, don't get me wrong, I really DO like the mortar, especially with the fish notion. We just need to adapt the grenade models! :D
<Community>: Why was the name "Nexuiz" licensed to IllFonic in a way that allows IllFonic to use the name without any suffix or subtitle for a commercial console game?

I just checked these out in SVN, and I have to say this is an absolute huge improvement. You guys just made the game vastly better visually than in was with these new weapons. Feels like a new game to me now.

Just like now: new electro sure is great and better than the previous one, but the old one was okay too. But the old crylink is still there... and arguably, that's the weapon model that sucks most.

Mortar IMHO looks too generic from first person view, could be a RL too. Hagar - no idea, not used to it yet. Electro sure is great.

Maybe this weird artist behaviour is what they need for their ego. If they make a new Crylink, sure, people will say it's great - but then they think "that's not showing me off as a great artist, as ANYONE can make a better crylink". That's why they tend to make replacements for GOOD models, and let the BAD ones rot. And might be why no artist ever tries to improve or replace our player models.

haha, I don't think you understand the artist mentality very well. when it comes to redesign, it's not about ego so much as inspiration. I would guess morphed is trying to fit the weapons to a common theme, but is still trying to work out how to do that with the crylink (while still keeping it's general visual feeling the same). the crylink is really an outlier in the nexuiz design style, it looks more like a gun from halo. but if you change it too much, people won't see it and think 'crylink'.

I don't know morphed, but if he's anything like the kind of artist I am, he didn't neglect it because it's easy to improve on, but because it's difficult to get the same image across. I wouldn't be too surprised if he still has the odd thought creep up about how to make it work.

New models are great.

I like the crylink also btw, the only thing it needs is more polys to smooth out the tubes and such.

Because then ALL models would need to use the same BONES/OFFSETS or stuff like muzzle flashes or ejecting casings will be at the wrong spot. Not to mention that in general its a good idea to have a uniform look for a game :P

This could be solved by having weapon property file which bone it should attach to and at what offset.

Alien: if you want to code that feel free to do so :D

Sym: which will look ugly this time though as the mentioned origins WERE changed this time.
