Just saying...

And then anyone that whoever controls that server doesn't like gets banned from playing nexuiz. Ah, I see why some people like the idea.

I don't get it. What do you mean?
quit for good

I wouldn't expect anyone who already has Q3 Arena to play QuakeLive, the same game but with advertisements.

Q3 Arena still has a niche because there is no Quake 5 Arena.

Yet there are thousands of QL players who could play nexuiz if they knew it exists.

I personally don´t understand the disliking of having a Password-Server Option. Sure. Its a Free Game and anyone can play it, but if i for example, for a Scrim or whatever, want to play with just a handful of my friends, without being disturbed by public players, I should have the option of just closing my Server for that.

Any FPS Game has that serverside by now, why not Nexuiz ? Shouldn´t be that hard to do. And again, its not especially about implementing a Feature that a Developer might not like, its more about giving people an Option if they want to do that or not. Not just saying NO from the beginning. Thats too single-sided oppinion if you ask me.

Well, I do not say totally NO. Just that they should not be in the list of PUBLIC servers.

You'd have to spread your IP another way then, that's all I say. dyndns.org exists for a reason.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

How about a Filter in the Serverlist for Passworded Servers ? Many Games have that, and so not Public and non-Public (passworded) Servers wouldn't be in the same list, unless you enable that filter.

Well, remind me again how a password protected server is different from a non-public server?
For the first you need to tell your friends the 'name' and the 'password' while all other players will just be annoyed by an server in the server list which they can't join.. If you need to change the password you still need to tell your friends.
For the later you need to tell your friends the 'ip:port' which they can enter in the join dialog, add the server as favorite (bookmark) and it will just work. If someone found the server by accident (will that really happen?) you need to tell your friends the new port..

In fact it would even be possible to host a 'planned' match on a public server.. off the mind, untested:
alias clanmatch_start "sv_public -1; map aggressor" // this alias will take the server off the public server list, and kick all players on it
alias clanmatch_over "sv_public 1; heartbeat; endmatch" // this alias will add the server to the public server list again..

Make the admin install those aliases, make them available to you via master loging or restricted rcon.

No offense, but your suggestions are all so much more complicated than a simple "sv_password 1" option that any Quake Server and also most other Games have. That would be far more simple. And also, what do I care when I want to play for example with 4 or 5 friends for an evening alone on our Server, why would I care if someone else would like that or not ?

Thats why its called "Private", you can find that in any Game and I am sure Players there are not annoyed by the fact that there are times where you simply want to be alone for a match or 2, or even in a Clan War. The option to put a Serverside Password is really absolutely standard and everyone would understand that. Unless you´re saying that all the other Games do something wrong by having that option.

You´re making it more complicated with your solution that it is. You think with this Option available, every 2nd Server would have a Password then ? LOL

Excessive behaviour i would call that. Those that do want to be alone for a while, for whatever reason that isn´t for justification, should just be able to.
